CLASSIC CHRISTMAS DECOR IN OUR DINING ROOM: ELEGANT, TRADITIONAL + FESTIVE

|

Our Christmas dining room decor this year is classic, elegant, traditional and festive! This space is small – it’s only about nine by ten feet, so decorating in here can be a big challenge. This room is at the front of our home and is completely open to our entryway and main hallway, and it also faces our living room. In recent years, I like to keep seasonal decor minimal in this room, but I always try to make a statement.

If you saw our Christmas entryway recently, then you’ve seen a few quick glimpses of the classic Christmas decor in our dining room. I’m excited to share the details and full tour today, featuring a beautiful, full length centerpiece and a few elegant, timeless accents throughout. You can shop our home and more of our Christmas decor in both my Amazon Shop, and LTK Shop too! Enjoy the tour! xo

CLASSIC CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM DECOR

Welcome to our home and Christmas dining room! You can see how this space is open to our entryway and the front of our home.

Keeping our Christmas decor cohesive throughout our home, from room to room is very important for me.

When you live in a modest sized home that’s open concept like ours, a consistent look throughout your home will go a long way and create a gorgeous experience.

It’s important to create visual continuity and flow, as one space opens to the next. The idea is to tie the spaces together.

If you love the idea of a different holiday look from space to space, that would be beautiful too! Your home will exude a different feeling – and that is completely ok!

Personally, I’m a stickler for repetition and consistency, it makes a strong visual statement and shows thoughtfulness in your decorating and design decisions. If I had a larger home, my approach may be totally different!

Our Christmas home this year is layered with the most stunning plaid ribbon (complimented with coordinating satin ribbons), gorgeous, lush greenery dressed with red berries, all accented with blue, red, green and gold.

I used the same approach with our classic Christmas dining room decor and used simple, elegant touches in a just few key places.

Our preppy buffalo check pillows, a cozy tartan throw blanket, full-length centerpiece and gorgeous greenery arrangements all add warmth and personality to our space.

I always love to dress up the back of our dining room chairs for Christmas, and this year I had the perfect excuse to use the same ribbon combination that you’ve seen everywhere throughout our home this season. And it’s so chic!

The plaid ribbon is just gorgeous against the buffalo check pillows and tartan throw on the settee. The patterns all work together because the scale of each one is so different. Don’t be afraid of the mix!

CREATE A GORGEOUS CHRISTMAS SPACE

A few simple, thoughtful decorating touches are all you need

  • Gorgeous statement ribbon, combined with coordinating ribbons create a stunning accent that can be used in strategic places – here, I used them on our chairs, but you can add them anywhere!
  • Symmetry wins every time! Create elegant arrangements and flank an area with them in your space. Two is always better than one!
  • Create a stunning centerpiece on your table with layered greenery, picks and candles. Ground it with a simple table runner.
  • Layer a cozy throw blanket that speaks to your Christmas decor. Our look this year is traditional and our plaid ribbon is the focus throughout our home, so I chose a tartan throw to speak to that.
  • Use luxe pillows for added warmth in your room. You can just remove them when you’re entertaining. It doesn’t need to be complicated!

You only need a few thoughtful, yet simple touches to create a gorgeous holiday space for Christmas.

Our Christmas dining room decor is exactly that – strategic, thoughtful, decorative accents in all the right places.

A SIMPLY STUNNING CHRISTMAS CENTERPIECE

I love the look of a centerpiece that runs down the length of a table and I love to keep this display here for the entire holiday season – even when we entertain in this space.

Our dining table is small, so I would remove the gold hurricanes when serving a meal in here, if we have people seated at the ends.

If you’re hosting an intimate dinner at your table, with only two other people, you can definitely keep this full centerpiece during your evening.

Or if you prefer, just keep some of the elements and remove the others. Whatever works with your setup and your dinner!

I’ve had this gold pedestal bowl for years and I’ve used it here for many Christmases! It’s such a versatile, classic and timeless piece.

I filled ours with different types of greenery I already had and red berry picks until I achieved the fullness I wanted.

Topped off with some pretty ornaments and fairy lights, et voilà! A simple yet stunning holiday centerpiece.

After my centerpiece was created, I layered our table in a symmetrical layout with red berry wreaths and red berry garlands,  glass hurricanes and gold hurricanes atop this understated table runner.

It was so incredibly simple to create this sophisticated, chic and festive Christmas centerpiece.

COZY LAYERS OF CHRISTMAS DECOR

I love to create a cozy atmosphere in our dining room, that’s welcoming, warm and enveloping for Christmas.

I love the addition of this gorgeous tartan throw blanket in here – I’m channeling my inner Ralph Lauren again, who I love so much and always turn to for design inspiration.

I found these beautiful magnolia leaf and pine arrangements at HomeSense, but found they were visually a little too dark.

I wanted to brighten them up and add some color, so by adding a few red and gold picks, they have a completely different look. They’re gorgeous in this space and complement our throw and ribbon so beautifully too.

Simple, traditional, elegant. I’m thrilled with the outcome of our dining room this Christmas. I hope you love our classic Christmas decor in here too!

  2. So beautiful and elegant! It’s amazing what you’ve done with a small dining room. I, too, have a small dining room and you have given me some good ideas for what to do with it. Your gorgeous wall molding and chandelier help to create a beautiful visual effect, also. Thanks for the inspiration!
