A GORGEOUS BOHO-GLAM BEDROOM MAKEOVER!

| |

I’m sharing a very special story with you today – a story of strength and courage, a story of determination, perseverance.

A story about never giving up – on those that you love, and most of all, yourself. This is a story about a personal journey that, no matter how difficult the path may have been along the way, all roads have to lead to the most beautiful transformation and outcome.

When my girlfriend, Paula, asked me to help her redesign her master bedroom, I was ecstatic to be able to help her – I knew her journey had been a very tough one, one that most of us won’t necessarily ever experience in our lifetime.

I wanted to give her this special gift so that she would be able to continue on with the next chapter of her new life.

I don’t want to make this into a sad story, not at all. It’s actually uplifting and awe-inspiring, and it certainly is a special one.

I could not be more happy with the outcome of this incredible boho glam bedroom makeover, and I’m so happy to finally be sharing it with all of you! Grab some coffee, this is a long post!

Our Boho Glam Bedroom Makeover

Obviously, the above image is what Paula’s bedroom looked like at the beginning of our project.

However, before I begin, I want to thank all of our partners, who so generously helped us successfully create this gorgeous master suite, and I would not have been able to design this space without their help and generosity: LUX-DECOR for graciously inviting us into their retail store (take a virtual tour of their stunning store here!), for taking the time to meet with us, for wanting to be a part of Paula’s incredible journey, and for donating a multitude of beautiful accessories. ROBERT ALLEN  for generously donating all of the fabrics for our custom pillows and window treatments (more on those in a little bit), LE FRAME SHOPPE, for providing us with extremely generous discounts on the most beautiful custom framing and custom mirror, and LOUISE COSTELLO, for also offering very generous discounts on all of our custom sewing.

After Paula and I met together and brainstormed about what, and how we would tackle this project, we joined up with our friends from LUX-DECOR at their beautiful retail location.

It was such a great day of getting to know each other, getting down to the roots of Paula’s story, and why she was in need of this gift she was giving to herself.

We sifted through fabrics and came up with our selection that day, even though we borrowed a whole slew of them to try out in Paula’s bedroom – we knew where we were headed right from the beginning!

bedroom floor fabric

This is Paula’s own, stunning vintage rug that was handed down from her parent’s travels around the globe.

Talk about luck! Paula knew what she wanted and had a vision in mind, but she wasn’t quite sure where to begin, or how to pull it together.

After looking through images on Pinterest, sharing ideas and discussing what she truly wanted, we both knew this rug was the perfect source for our inspiration and the jumping-off point for the entire space.

It set the tone, the color palette and the mood of our bedroom makeover: Boho-Glam. If I could describe Paula in one word, it would be that! She loves fashion, loves girly, blingy, glamorous touches, but she’s somewhat of a bohemian deep down in her soul.

Someone who is carefree, free-spirited and someone who has a love for life. She has a love for the rustic, natural elements as well, so finding the right balance was the key to the success of this makeover. Without further ado, let me show you Paula’s new bedroom and talk a little bit about her journey…

Paula and her late husband Dean were full of life and had a true love story that you only hear about in movies or novels.

A beautiful couple inside and out in every way, their love story dates back to their high school years, with three beautiful, growing children.

When Dean was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig’s disease, their lives were forever changed.

Over a period of 21 months, they fought together to combat the illness that would eventually take Dean from her and their children.

As friends in our community rallied around them to help and support in any way we could while they faced this battle, Paula was the thread that held everyone together.

Her undeniable strength helped a community mourn, kept her children on their paths to healing and strength, and kept her spirit alive through it all.

Always standing tall and with a beautiful smile, and always there to reassure everyone else that it was all going to be ok, no matter what was happening.

Dean was her strength, and she, his.

Together, on their journey, they learned of a whole new level of love, their love story truly is one that could stand the test of time and any trials that they would face.

‘A love story for the ages’ is what I would call it. Through all of her soul searching, reflection, mourning, and meditation, she was able to keep her head up high, and move forward with her life – almost like a metamorphosis – and ensure that her children would do the same as well, all while remembering and celebrating Dean every day.

It certainly is admirable and quite a story about true love in every sense. Loving your family, kids, spouse, friends, and most importantly, loving yourself.

Gorgeous Boho-Glam bedroom with brass, navy blue, and natural elements is the perfect blend of old and new.

In light of keeping this post a happy and uplifting one, I’ll get back to the incredible bedroom makeover that Paula so deserves after the journey she had to face.

When she told me she needed a new space to call her own, a space to reflect, write, meditate, a sanctuary that could feed her soul, I was thrilled to be able to help her.

She was ready for the new life that was ahead of her and wanted to give this gift to herself, so she could face the day with strength each day and go to bed with peace each night.

Here we are today, almost a year after we started our project together! I could not be more happy for Paula, now she can truly move through each day with a sense of well-being – something we all need in our lives!

Stunning Boho-Glam bedroom makeover with a blue vintage rug, brass accents, layered patterns and textiles, large scale crystal chandelier.

Paula had purchased the bed before we started our project – she loved the strong, clean linear aesthetic, the visual weight it brings to the space and the natural element of the wood.

Having the gorgeous vintage rug, the bed and our color palette, a room that’s a perfect blend of old and new, and masculine and feminine, was born.

We pulled the navy blue wall color right our of the rug, Benjamin Moore Symphony Blue 2060-10. Keeping everything else crisp and clean, we painted the rest of the walls Benjamin Moore Simply White OC-117.

All of the walls are painted an eggshell finish. On the trim, we wanted a slight contrast and a brighter white, Behr Ultra Pure White in semigloss.

A gorgeous Boho-Glam bedroom makeover with the perfect blend of old and new - a modern bed, vintage rug, crystal chandelier tied together with eclectic accessories and brass elements throughout.

The chandelier needed to be statement-making and extra-large in scale, to bring the room together.

It’s quite a large space and with the tray ceiling, it was the perfect ‘frame’ for our stunning centerpiece.

She knew she wanted a glamorous crystal light fixture, with old-world elegance.

This is such a fabulous piece that we found, and it punctuates our Boho-Glam concept perfectly!

Boho-glam bedroom makeover featuring an over-scale crystal chandelier, modern rustic bed, vintage rug, brass nightstands and accessories and layers of pattern.

Paula had been given a very special, sentimental gift after her husband’s passing, a beautiful, rustic driftwood heart.

It was imperative that this piece is a focal point in the room – it’s a symbol of her new life, a rebirth, her new beginning.

We decided the best way to showcase it would be to have a custom shadowbox made for it so that it would be prominently featured as a daily reminder for Paula in her new space.

We turned to our friends at LE FRAME SHOPPE who masterfully created this stunning work of art for space.

Beautiful writing desk area in this Boho-Glam bedroom featuring driftwood heart artwork paired with a modern waterfall glass desk. Layers of pattern and texture throughout the space add an eclectic, collected vibe.

Although it is a focal point on this wall, we wanted it to have a quiet elegance about it, so that it didn’t compete with other elements in the room.

With so many patterns and textures happening all around the space, the white frame accented with just the right touch of gold detail provided the balance we were looking for.

And a showstopper of a piece, it certainly is. It’s the center of Paula’s desk area, where she reflects and writes her journal entries.

It’s that perfect blend of Boho-Glam and speaks volumes in the space without screaming aloud.

We also had the tobacco wood mirror custom made by LE FRAME SHOPPE as well.

We wanted a large, oversized piece that has depth and adds visual weight to space.

It needed to be large enough to fill the wall and to bounce light around the room.

It also picks up on the warm wood tones of the bed.

A gorgeous reading nook with layers of blues - vintage rug, eclectic pillows, graphic roman blind are layered together create the perfect boho-glam bedroom.

This corner is where Paula reads and reflects as well, and has a chance to get her day started with a cup of coffee or unwind at the end of a hectic day with her feet up.

This room was meant to be Paula’s sanctuary, a special space to call her very own, so she could meditate, relax and rejuvenate, and ironically, every time she walks in, one of her three kids is hanging out in here!

I couldn’t ask for anything better. They love this space just as much as she does, and as a designer, if the kids approve, then we’ve done our job!

Let’s talk about the stunning fabrics from ROBERT ALLEN. The roman blinds and largest pillows are made with Kavali Ogee, in Midnight, by Dwell Studio for Robert Allen.

The blue and white tile print pillows in the middle are Print N Stitch in Mussel Shell by Robert Allen, and the gorgeous pop of yellow is Sultan’s Palace in Citrine (how appropriate!) by Robert Allen.

I love how the sunburst mirror accents that pillow perfectly!

The Romans are clean-lined and we purposely had them mounted to the ceiling to bring the eye all the way up.

The pattern is beautiful and the graphic nature makes a strong statement in the space.

Many of you know of my love for pattern and for mixing them, and this one is a fabulous large-scale print that mixes so well with all of the others we selected.

Notice all of the pillows here – on the bed, the chair, the floor, as well as the throw and the rug – there are many patterns and textures, all of which are threaded together through our color palette of blue, white and gold/yellow.

This gorgeous bedroom makeover went from dark and drab to bright and sophisticated with a boho-glam edge that will make you want to create this look yourself!

The blue velvet bench was one of our lucky finds at LUX-DECOR that was just waiting to be used in here!

The punch of color, the brass detailing and the modern lines provide the perfect complement to the bed, as well as all of the vintage-inspired elements in the space.

A beautiful blue velvet bench with brass tray and layers of white and cream accessories.

Beautiful accessories in golds and creams, layered atop the bench add just the right amount of sophisticated elegance.

You can never have enough brass in my opinion! Layering accessories throughout the room, for a collected feel was key to creating the look we were going for in here.

For the nightstands, we actually used bar carts in lieu of traditional bedside tables. We simply removed the wheels to turn these into night tables and voila!

We wanted brass, glass and modern to play off of the navy blue wall. These ones were the perfect choice with that circular detail, which also echoes the sunburst mirror over the bed, the artwork below, and pillows also play off of the shape as well.

With Paula’s love for shabby-chic, found objects and all things old, we gathered some old books that she’s been collecting through the years, and used them around the room.

We found this medallion print artwork online as a free printable – you can find it at littlegoldpixel.com.

An eclectic mix of accessories layered together adds interest to your nightstand or shelves. Medallion artwork, vintage books and sculptural accessories with touches of brass are a chic mix!

The dresser is from another local shop that we found on sale, and it was such a lucky find! Bringing in the old-world vibe once again, it has a quiet elegance about it that allows for a beautiful arrangement of accessories.

We sourced the blue agate artwork, also a free printable from foxandhazel.com.

More accessories that were donated from LUX-DECOR include this stunning blue and white ginger jar and votives on the dresser, as well as many of the beautiful objects styled on the nightstands.

Antique mirrored dresser styled with brass and blue and white accessories.

We kept the bedding clean and simple – a crisp white textured coverlet and matching shams.

It needed to take a backseat to all of the other elements in the space, as well as provide a quiet backdrop for our custom-made pillows.

It serves the wood of the bed frame beautifully also and allows the warm tones to really stand out.

Of course, you know me – I just had to throw in some of my favorite blue and white chinoiserie!

The gorgeous blue and white boxes and vases are also from LUX-DECOR.
