TIMELESS SUMMER DECORATING IDEAS FOR AN EFFORTLESSLY ELEGANT LOOK
Summer is one of my favorite seasons to decorate. Rather than completely transforming our home, I always like to make a few thoughtful changes that feel fresh, elegant and effortless. By layering seasonal florals, using a beautiful color palette, and incorporating coastal touches and natural textures, it’s easy to create a home that feels bright, welcoming and inspired by the season. The best part is that many of these ideas don’t require buying an entirely new collection of decor and accessories. Instead, they’re about styling the pieces you already love and embracing the beauty of summer, while adding one or two new items as you grow your collections. Today I’m sharing timeless summer decorating ideas that I’ve used throughout the years in our home – there are some old favorites here today! If you’ve already toured our summer entryway, our summer kitchen and our summer living room, then you know that these elegant summer decorating ideas are some of my favorites that I use time and time again!

DECORATE WITH HYDRANGEAS: THE QUINTESSENTIAL SUMMER FLOWER

Nothing says summer quite like a beautiful arrangement of hydrangeas. Whether fresh-cut from the garden or beautiful faux stems, these timeless blooms instantly make any space feel full of life and bring in that classic, effortless feeling of a summer home.

I often love using oversized arrangements as statement pieces throughout our home but small arrangements strategically placed throughout can also make a beautiful seasonal statement. Arranged in a ginger jar or a chic champagne bucket, you can always create a stunning look.

Hydrangeas are incredibly versatile and work beautifully in both traditional and modern interiors and there are so many varieties to choose from.

Their soft, full blooms add texture, color and elegance without feeling overly formal, making them the perfect finishing touch for everything from an entryway console table to a kitchen island, bedside table or tablescape.
CLASSIC BLUE AND WHITE: IT NEVER GETS OLD!

Blue and white is my go-to color palette and has always been one of my favorite decorating color combinations for many years. It never goes out of style, it’s fresh, yet classic, timeless and sophisticated and works beautifully during every season – but it feels especially perfect for summer decorating.

Whether it’s ginger jars, pillows, artwork, ceramics or a beautifully curated tablescape, this classic color combo instantly makes a gorgeous statement.

There’s no secret that blue is my favorite color and I’ve thoughtfully added more layers of this classic palette to our home through the years – it simply makes me happy!
INCORPORATE A BLUE AND GREEN COLOR PALETTE

As you probably already know, another favorite summer decorating color palette that I am always turning to is green and blue, as shown above in our summer entryway.

There is just something about it that I love so much – it’s a palette that feels fresh, calming and inspired by nature. Green adds life and vibrancy, while blue brings a sense of tranquility, making them the perfect combination for the season.

I like to introduce green through florals, decorative accessories and textiles while allowing my existing blue accents to remain the foundation of the room. Repeating these colors throughout our home creates a cohesive look that naturally flows from one space to the next.

ADD NATURAL ELEMENTS: WOOD, WOVEN TEXTURES AND GREENERY

Adding natural materials is one of the easiest ways to make your home feel warm and inviting during the summer months. Woven baskets, rattan trays or mirrors, wood accents and touches of greenery all add beautiful texture and depth and help create a relaxed, lived-in feel without sacrificing elegance.

Layering these organic elements alongside classic pieces keeps a room from feeling too formal and adds a sense of casual elegance as well. This gorgeous jute rug was the perfect layer in here – I loved this look from our summer living room years ago!

The contrast between smooth ceramics and natural textures creates depth and adds visual interest while bringing a little of the outdoors inside. It also pairs perfectly with a blue and white palette!
BRING IN COASTAL TOUCHES

One of my favorite ways to celebrate summer is by displaying my collection of coral and shells throughout our home. I talk about this in our summer living room, also shown above. I love layering coral sculptures on bookshelves, styling them on coffee tables, and tucking shells into decorative vignettes alongside books, ginger jars and greenery.

These natural elements instantly evoke the feeling of the coast while adding beautiful texture, sculptural interest and an organic touch. Rather than decorating with obvious nautical pieces, I prefer incorporating coral and shells in a timeless, understated way that complements the rest of our decor.

These collected pieces always feel elegant rather than themed, bringing a relaxed coastal influence that blends beautifully with our classic blue and white palette and helps create a home that feels fresh, light and airy.
LAYER IN SEASONAL ARTWORK

Changing artwork is one of the simplest ways to give a room an updated seasonal look. When it comes to summer decorating, I love finding artwork that complements my seasonal color palette as well as reinforces the look I’m trying to achieve throughout our home.

These gorgeous coral digital art prints are some of my favorites in our summer entryway shown above, they’ve helped to create exactly the look I was after – both through color and motif. I love the graphic quality the coral illustration and the chic pop of color here.

Seasonal artwork doesn’t have to be expensive or permanent! Whether you’re displaying framed prints or using digital art on your television, it’s an easy way to celebrate the season while adding another layer of personality and a unique feel to your space.
MIX PATTERNS AND ADD STRIPES!

Layering patterns is one of my favorite ways to create a home that feels collected and full of character. Rather than relying on solid colors, I always love mixing varying patterns to create visual interest while keeping everything connected through a consistent color palette. This summer bedroom look from many years ago is hands down a favorite of mine with all those chic stripes in blue and white!

Stripes are especially beautiful during the summer because they feel crisp, timeless and effortless. They add movement and interest while still maintaining that elegant but effortless, layered look I love. This pattern mix above from several years ago is still a favorite!
CREATING A TIMELESS SUMMER HOME

Summer decorating shouldn’t be stressful! By adding beautiful florals, layering color, chic pattern mixing, incorporating natural textures or refreshing your artwork can completely transform the feeling of your home.

Thank you as always for taking the time to be here today – I hope these ideas inspire you to embrace the season and create a home that feels fresh, welcoming and uniquely your own! xo
