CHIC SUMMER LIVING ROOM DECOR IN GORGEOUS BLUE AND GREEN WITH TIMELESS COASTAL ACCENTS

|

Summer is my favorite time of year, hands down. The easy, laid-back days, simple meals, indoor-outdoor living, long summer nights…there’s nothing like it! Today I’m sharing our summer living room decor that emphasizes that carefree feeling of the season I love so much. I always love giving our living room a fresh update, but I rarely completely redecorate – I always build on the timeless foundation that’s already here by layering in a few seasonal touches that instantly make our space feel lighter, brighter and ready for summer. I continued the same blue and green color palette from our summer entryway, and our summer kitchen to create a cohesive look throughout our home. Beautiful blues, fresh greens, warm neutrals and layers of whites through coastal accents work together to create a room that feels elegant, welcoming and perfect for the season. Step inside our summer living room and have a look around – I hope you love it as much as we do!

A COHESIVE SUMMER COLOR PALETTE

One of the easiest ways to make your home feel beautifully cohesive throughout is by repeating the same colors from room to room. Blue has always been a staple throughout our home as you know already, and for summer I love pairing it with fresh green accents for a chic and classic summer palette.

I decided to rotate things around and bring my beautiful blue lamps back in here (they’ve made their way from room to room!), for a clean, bright look – I love these beauties wherever they land.

With added layers of shades of white from my coral sculptures as well as some neutral pieces threaded in, together it all creates a stunning palette that feels calming, sophisticated and timeless while adding just the right amount of seasonal newness.

As you move from our entryway into our living room and then into our kitchen as well as our dining room, you’ll notice these same colors woven throughout each space, creating a seamless, cohesive flow, which is very important to me.

With all the lush greenery outside of our windows, it feels like a natural extension to pull that into our home as well. The look is fresh and bright, while keeping a sophisticated and elegant feel I always strive for.

COASTAL TOUCHES: THE PERFECT SUMMER DECOR DETAIL

Coastal touches are a favorite decorative element of mine and although I do use them throughout the year, I bring out most of my pieces in the summer.

I’ve always been drawn to gorgeous coral pieces, shells and curiosities – they’re sculptural quality is like a piece of art and they visually add interest through texture and their unique shapes.

Rather than decorating with an obvious beach theme, I always prefer incorporating coastal-inspired elements that feel elegant, sophisticated and understated. It’s coastal decorating in a timeless way instead of a themed one.

Coral sculptures thoughtfully placed throughout the room (and our home) bring beautiful texture and reinforce that relaxed coastal feeling without overwhelming our space.

Mixed with books, ginger jars, candles and decorative accessories, they become thoughtful accents that quietly celebrate the season and create a curated, personal look. One day we hope to move to Florida, that must be the reason I’m so drawn to this look!

BOOKSHELVES AND ART

This summer on our bookshelves, I mixed a few new brown and white ginger jars with my favorite hurricane lanterns and coral pieces as well as blue and green pieces to introduce a soft neutral into the palette.

The warmer tones of these jars add depth while still complementing the fresh blues, greens and whites found throughout the room.

To continue with the coastal feel, I layered more coral sculptures among the books and decorative accessories. They add beautiful texture and a nod to summer without feeling overly themed or expected – plus they’re truly beautiful against the blue wallpaper.

The coral hurricane lanterns and simple sculpture on the center of the mantel add a luxe, textured look.

I often leave much of our decor here as is and only update a few key pieces. I also like leaving a little breathing room on our bookshelves.

Not every shelf needs to be fully filled, and the negative space allows each vignette to stand out while keeping the overall look feeling light and more curated, as these shelves can get overwhelming visually with too many pieces, so it’s a delicate balance when styling them.

A favorite detail in our summer living room this season is the digital artwork displayed on our tv. The coastal scene with sailboats, blue water and blooming hydrangeas feels like a natural extension of the room itself – what a fabulous view this would be in real life!

It reinforces the same blue and green palette while bringing another layer of softness and interest above the mantel.

I love using digital artwork to reflect the seasons because it’s such an easy, affordable way to refresh a space. Just like changing throw pillows or accessories, switching the artwork here reinforces the look in our summer living room.

Together with the hydrangeas, coral accents and layered accessories, it helps create a cohesive summer look that feels elegant, relaxed and connected to the rest of our home.

CHIC NEW DRAPES AND PILLOWS – LAYERS OF SOFTNESS

One of my favorite ways to refresh a room for a new season is with beautiful textiles. They have the ability to completely transform the look and feel of a space.

This summer, I introduced these stunning light blue drapes (the trim detail we added is H61) in our living room, that beautifully coordinate with the window treatments throughout the rest of our home.

You’ll find roman shades in our kitchen with the same beautiful light blue fabric and trim detailing, as well as drapes in our bedroom, and in our dining room.

They help create a cohesive flow from one room to the next while adding softness and a subtle layer of chic color – I absolutely love the freshness this light blue color brings to our summer living room decor! They also provide visual balance of color to the room with the lamps on the opposite side.

Our new indoor/outdoor throw pillows from Hofdeco are just gorgeous in our beautiful summer color palette and I love the mix of these prints. They perfectly coordinate with our summer living room decor and the rest of our home as well – blue and green patterns with crisp white for a fresh, layered look that also reiterates that coastal feel I love so much.

By combining these beautiful prints while staying within the same color story, our living room feels interesting and still visually cohesive and balanced. I love the hydrangea motif that echos the florals in the room, in the art and our hydrangeas outside as well.

The detailing on these pillows is beautiful as well – they either have classic piped edges or fringe detail edges – both add an elevated element that I always love, for a bit more of an upscale look.

A soft blue striped throw on the sofa finishes the look, adding another layer of color and texture that makes our space feel even more comfortable and inviting.

TIMELESS, CHIC SUMMER STYLE

For me, summer decorating isn’t about replacing everything with seasonal decor. It’s about thoughtfully layering color, texture and a few meaningful accessories with the timeless pieces I already have and love.

By using the same blue and green color palette, layering in beautiful textiles and pillows and incorporating subtle coastal elements mixed with my collected favorites plus a few new additions, our summer living room decor feels fresh for summer, yet still achieves that timeless, classic elegance I love so much. Thank you for joining me today, I hope you’re found some inspiration! xo

  1. I LOVE your summer decor! The seasonal touches are subtle yet they definitely tell us that it’s summer. I’m in the market for a new sofa, and I like the lines of yours. Which PB fabric and color is yours? Thanks for all that you do.
