FALL LIVING ROOM DECORATING WITH EARTHY COLROS AND CHIC, ELEGANT STYLING

|

There’s something about bringing deeper, warmer colors into our living room for fall that instantly makes our space feel so cozy and inviting. This season, I kept my fall decorating simple – layering in beautiful earthy tones of deep brown, blues as always, some beige tones and gold accents that I always love, especially at this time of year, while keeping the overall look elegant, chic, collected and very much on theme with the rest of our fall home. I’m a firm believer that that seasonal decorating doesn’t have to mean completely starting over. In fact, many of the pieces you see here are favorites I’ve used for years, over and over, or items that have appeared in other rooms and seasons. If you read with me often, you know this already! A few thoughtful changes can make a familiar space feel fresh again. I kept my light blue drapes in place, added some deeper brown accents and brought in a few new touches to complement what I already had. The result is fall living room decorating that feels warm and sophisticated, but still comfortable and livable – exactly how I want our home to feel.

FALL LIVING ROOM DECORATING

As you enter our living room, you’re greeted by our buffet, which is always styled with a pair of lamps, and pieces that make a beautiful seasonal statement. I love the combination of our color palette this fall season – deep browns, warm beiges, varying blues and gold accents. It feels rich and autumnal without relying on traditional fall decor.

I moved our large brown ginger jar from the floor in front of the fireplace (in our summer living room) and brought it up here, as the focal point. Flanked by our gold hurricane lanterns for warmth and symmetry, and of course our blue lamps. A simple vignette that’s elegant and chic.

I love the mood that the brown tones from my jar set for the room and as you walk through, and your eye is carried through to all the deep, earthy accents used throughout our living room this season. The look in here is warm, inviting and collected at the same time.

At this time of year, I always have our fireplace turned on, it just adds the perfect amount of heat and coziness to our space. It gives you the feeling of wanting to snuggle up with some tea of coffee under a warm blanket. I just love it.

I was going for warm and welcoming in our living room this fall, but still keeping the overall look classic and elegant.

FALL LIVING ROOM BOOKSHELVES

I kept our bookshelves fairly simply styled. They’re a backdrop for some of my favorite collected pieces, and I only change a few items from season to season. It’s rare that I change all of our shelves – for one, it’s too much work, and secondly, I love them this way and they’re very neutral. Christmas does get some more tweaks, but typically only a few of shelves see styling changes.

My brown ginger jars, also used in our summer living room stayed put, but I styled them a little differently for fall. I love the way they work with these beautiful Bibles and books that are from my sweet mother-in-law’s home (who very sadly, we recently lost). The ones below are almost two hundred years old! The moody autumn coastal tv artwork is the perfect complement to the whole room and pulls everything together.

My blue and white ginger jars from my mama, small votive candles that add a warm glow and a few favorite pieces fill in the shelves without making them feel overly decorated.

The Bibles on the lower shelves are styled with with my woven hurricane lanterns – they have beautiful gold-edged pages, which add another subtle layer of that collected feeling and warmth, plus the sheen is beautiful.

My rechargeable lamps that are often styled here on the mantel, they give off the prettiest glow in the evening and create another layer of warm, cozy lighting alongside my vintage candlesticks. My brown inlay box – an old favorite – echoes the pattern of the pillows and other brown touches. The wooden box from my childhood also reiterates all the deep brown accents.

The blue and white footbath planters on each side are another favorite addition here. I used one of these in our fall bedroom as well, but here I left them intentionally empty – they bring in another touch of blue and white.

One of my favorite pieces that I found on FB Marketplace is my blue and white garden stool in front of the fireplace. It lives outside by the pool during the summer and indoors for fall and winter. It’s such a versatile piece! It’s another example of how I love to move pieces around our home.

LAYERING FALL PILLOWS AND TEXTURES

Pillows are one of the easiest ways to change the feeling of a room for a new season, and I mixed several of my favorite pillows from previous fall looks with my new blue block print pillow from this fall.

Some of these are designer pillows and can be a splurge, so they don’t need to be limited to one season or one room, and mixing existing favorites with something new always keeps the look fresh.

The deep brown checked throw adds another layer of color and softness to the sofa and helps bring our fall color palette together.

Above and below, you can see a glimpse of my beautiful printed pillows by our entryway, picking up the color palette. The colors in our home this season (as always) are carried through from room to room.

SIMPLE OTTOMAN STYLING

I kept the ottoman styling fairly simple, using a few pieces I already love and adding lots of texture. I brought out my very old gold tray that has tons of chips and peeling paint – but I love that – it’s another nod to a more ‘collected over time’ feeling. One of my favorite blue and white jars from my mama, filled with deep brown hydrangeas is the focal point.

I love how these florals bring in the rich color of the season with simple elegance. I’ve also layered my gold hurricane lantern, a gold horse head that I’ve had for many years, books as usual, my blue and white ceramic box, a hand painted round box that was a gift from an old friend, my brown agate sculpture and the prettiest brown-spotted shell that came from my mother-in-law when we were cleaning out her home.

Pieces like these are especially meaningful to me because they add personality and a sense of history to a room.

I much prefer decorating with things that have a story rather than having everything feel brand new – this is something I’ve said for years – make it personal to you and what you love. Plus it adds those layers of beautiful pattern, color and texture – which is always intentional in my decorating.

A FEW SIMPLE CHANGES FOR FALL

I love how our fall living room decorating came together with just a few key changes. The foundation of the space stayed exactly the same, as it often does. With layers of some deeper, earthy tones, pattern, texture, gold accents, candlelight, florals, and a few seasonal pieces, the feeling of the room is completely changed from summer to fall.

The beauty of decorating for a new season is you don’t need to reinvent your home – shop around your own home, move a favorite piece into a room, change pillows, add a beautiful floral arrangement, layer in warm candles and introduce a richer color palette with a few key pieces. Thank you for reading along today, I hope our fall living room decorating has inspired yours! xo
