OUR TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE: CLASSIC RED PLAID + BLUE & WHITE CHINOISERIE

|

It’s already that time of the year – it’s so hard to believe Christmas is so close! We’re in full Christmas mode in our home and I am loving it. Our halls are all decked, stockings are hung, the tree is trimmed and I’m so thrilled to be sharing this year’s traditional Christmas tree with you. If you remember our Christmas tree from last year, it featured a stunning blue and red plaid ribbon, which set the tone for our entire holiday home. We loved the look so much last year, I wanted to incorporate that same, classic and timeless feeling again this year. I chose another plaid ribbon as the star again this year, with a more traditional look and feel – it’s a classic red plaid that feels nostalgic and is truly gorgeous. You’ll find it threaded throughout our home again this year as well. Today, you’ll also get a few glimpses of our Christmas living room, which I’ll also be sharing very soon! I hope you enjoy our traditional Christmas tree this year – I know there are many similarities to what I’ve shared in the past, but when you love something so much, I say stick with it. Enjoy!

In case you missed some of my previous holiday posts, I shared these chic & simple entertaining ideas as well as a look back at some of last year’s holiday decor (and fabulous deals!).

OUR TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE

It usually takes me about a week of working around the clock to dress our home fully for the holiday season. I still have a few small nooks and crannies to finish up around the house, but I am mostly finished…what a relief, ha!

It’s a lot of work in a short time and and very tiring, but it’s such a fun thing to be able to do and I love to to share our holiday home with you – and hopefully give you ideas for your own home.

You’ll definitely find similarities to holidays past throughout our home this year, as I mentioned before, but there are some new details this year as well.

Our gorgeous, new blue velvet stockings and tree skirt are so stunning – they add such a beautiful, luxe element to our home and the color is rich and so elegant.

I also found beautiful, already made greenery arrangements in blue and white footbath planters – they’re just exquisite! They were a very lucky HomeSense find, but it’s also very easy to make on your own by simply arranging greenery picks, berry picks and red hydrangeas (which I also added to these) in your own blue and white footbath planters (set of two, small and large) or any container of your choice.

Many of our tree ornaments are the same ones I’ve been using for the several years now, and each year I find different ones to add to my collection.

The most recent ones I purchased, are these stunning little blue and white ginger jar ornaments – I’m SO in love with them and the chinoiserie chic element they add to our traditional Christmas tree, along with some of my existing blue and white ornaments and decor throughout our home.

As I mentioned above, the star of our Christmas decor this year is a stunning, elegant and traditional plaid ribbon. Sadly, I can’t link the exact one for you, it’s already sold out! It was so hard to find to link, but below you’ll find similar plaid ribbons that can give you the same classic holiday look.

TREE DECORATING TIP

Some trees have very large gaps that are hard to fill in – use a 4″ wide ribbon that has wired edges so you can shape it. Tuck your ribbon into all of the large holes around your tree. Wrap the branches (or wire) around the ends to hold it in place. Next, add large floral picks, then berry picks and then large ornaments. From there, layer in all of the smaller decorations around the tree to fill in any other spaces.

We also recently installed this peel and stick faux grasscloth wallpaper, which I revealed in our fall living room. It’s such a gorgeous backdrop to our Christmas decor and a stunning compliment to all of our Holiday blues layered throughout our home.

OUR TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE DETAILS

I wanted to add layers of warm whites to our traditional Christmas tree this year to create a different look than previous years and I love the results.

Some of these new, warm white decorations that you’ll find on our tree are these beautiful, cream-toned floral picks, these gold berry stems and these large, iced berry picks.

These warm white additions bring a brightness to our tree, that I think is truly beautiful and I love how it echoes the the white Christmas houses and churches and the decorative books on our shelves.

As I mentioned earlier, our stunning new velvet tree skirt from Cailini Coastal is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect complement to my blue and white decor throughout our home as well as our ornaments. I love how the white gift boxes pop off of the blue skirt!

It coordinates with our beautiful, new blue velvet Christmas stockings, also from Cailini Coastal. They create a truly beautiful combination with our traditional Christmas tree and add a luxe layer that is so elegant and chic to our space.
