OUR TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS LIVING ROOM: RED, BLUE, PLAID & CHINOISERIE

|

Welcome! Our traditional Christmas living room is here and full of stunning layers of pattern, color and gorgeous greenery I think you’re going to love. If you haven’t seen it yet, our traditional Christmas tree is also layered with these same stunning details and colors. This year, I chose to use a classic red plaid ribbon again, threaded throughout our home, combined with blue and white chinoiserie elements scattered around as well. Gorgeous greenery and floral arrangements, simple white Christmas houses and churches, beautiful hand block prints, plaid throws and more. Come in and take a look around – I hope you’ll love this classic look in our traditional Christmas living room as much as we do!

I recently shared these chic & simple entertaining ideas, and some of last year’s holiday decor (and fabulous deals!). Don’t forget you can always shop my favorite picks, our home decor and so much more in my Amazon US ShopAmazon Canada Shop. and LTK Shop.

OUR TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS LIVING ROOM

As you enter our traditional Christmas living room, our buffet is styled in a very simple way this year, with a beautiful, lush, oversized floral arrangement flanked by my latest blue and white finds – two gorgeous Ralph Lauren lamps.

I’ve been on the hunt for blue and white lamps for a very long time (I talked about this in our fall entryway) and although these two lamps are slightly different, I absolutely love them together. These were each amazing finds from HomeSense and not so easy to source online, I did find this pair that are available.

Our red and blue color palette is just gorgeous in our living room this Christmas. If you remember our last Christmas living room, I had a similar holiday theme and color palette, but featured the colors in a different way.

This season, I decided I wanted red to be a bit more dominant throughout our home, with pillows, florals, ribbon and textiles in our dining room. It was also important to me that the blues were not overshadowed either – so achieving just the right mix was crucial!

I just love the play of all the different patterns and how they work together in our space. You know I love to mix my patterns together!

Our pedestal bowl is one of my very favorite pieces that I’ve had now for a few years and its always the perfect vessel to create arrangements that make a big statement.

I’m in love with this stunning red floral and greenery arrangement – this beauty welcomes you as you enter our living room. The burgundy hydrangeas mixed in with the beautiful greenery and red and blue berries is truly a gorgeous combination for Christmas.

This view of our living room is one of my favorites – with a peek into our kitchen – our plaid ribbon and wreaths hanging on the glass cabinets continue with the traditional Christmas theme that you’ll see everywhere throughout our home.

We love to have our Christmas tree nestled behind our sofa – I do wish our space was bigger so our tree could stand alone!

We’ve tried our sofas and our tree in different layouts through the years, but this arrangement seems to work best in our home.

It does look beautiful against the windows and next to our shelves, I also love that you can get a snapshot of our entire Christmas theme right in this corner.

OUR PLAID CHRISTMAS TREE

Gorgeous, classic red, blue, white and gold in plaid and chinoiserie.

I shared these gorgeous little ginger jar ornaments when I shared my Christmas tree post and how much I adore them – I have two different sets and I think I’ll be adding more to my collection, I love them so much!

GINGER JAR ORNAMENTS

My favorite purchase this season! Add these chic little ornaments to your tree, mantel or gathered in a bowl with some greenery.

CHRISTMAS PILLOW COVERS + OTTOMAN DETAILS

This gorgeous, deep red block print pillow against the feminine, light blue grandmillennial print pillow and larger blue floral pillow is just such a pretty combination of both pattern and color.

I went heavy on the pattern mix with my pillows this Christmas and love the results!

GORGEOUS PILLOW COVERS!

These patterns all work so beautifully together and the red and blue combination is stunning for a festive look!

I love the vintage feeling they bring to our space, but at the same time they’re very modern and current.

They are really so beautiful all together and the festive plaid throw helps to tie them into my theme and tree.

Our ottoman is simply styled this year as well, with a few festive touches and chinoiserie elements.

A close up detail of one of my favorite pieces – this silver footed bowl with gorgeous patina, real touch greenery, red berries and blue and white ceramic chinoiserie balls.

Everything on our ottoman ties back to our pillows, the tree, mantel and bookshelves. Repetition is key for a consistent, cohesive holiday theme.

TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS MANTEL AND BOOKSHELVES

Our garland is similar to last year, except I added fewer berry picks and this time I layered it with my plaid ribbon for something a little more dressy. It’s made up of two different types of greenery, layered together to create a lush, full mix: norfolk pine garland and fraser fir garland.

As you know, we recently installed this peel and stick wallpaper on the back of our bookshelves and do they ever add dimension to our living room! I absolutely love how our garland and blue velvet stockings looks alongside the gorgeous blue.

The blue wallpaper provides the perfect backdrop for our Christmas decor as well. All of our creamy white Christmas houses, Christmas churches and decorative books pop right off the beautiful blue as well.

The blue and white chinoiserie pieces look so elegant and chic against it as well, as do our gold candleholders.

Our burgundy hydrangeas are so gorgeous nestled into my greenery arrangements and complement our red plaid ribbon, red berries and ribbons on our beautiful blue velvet stockings from Cailini Coastal.

They are so stunning with their rich, blue velvet fabric and white piping – classic, chic and so gorgeous accented with red.

These gorgeous chinoiserie and greenery arrangements were such lucky finds! I was so excited when I found them, I knew they would be perfect in our Christmas home.

I love how our traditional Christmas living room came together this year. My planning phase starts the year prior if you can believe it (yes, that means I’m already scheming for next Christmas!) – then slowly it comes together throughout the year as I research and source my items.

If you’re looking for my ribbon, which is unfortunately sold out for the season, below are a few similar ones that can help you achieve our traditional look.

SHOP THE LOOK!

Although I say it each year, our traditional Christmas living room with its layers of color, pattern and greenery is probably my favorite look ever.

That sense of nostalgia that I love so much – classic plaid, traditional chinoiserie, gorgeous color and pattern.

Thank you for touring our traditional Christmas living room with me today, I hope you loved all the details! Stay tuned for our Christmas dining room, entryway and kitchen coming soon! xo

Hi Sally! Thank you SO much! I’m thrilled you love it here, that means so much to me! I am so sorry their sold out – it does go fast, I know. Keep a eye out for next year! I did link some similar plaid ribbons that can help you achieve the same look. For the mantel, we use the large, heavy duty 3M hooks that hold quite a bit of weight. I hope this helps you and I hope you love how the garland looks! Thank you for reading with me! xo

  2. I so enjoy your blog! I’ve ordered the garlands you used. Can you tell me how you attach them to your mantle? Tried to order the stockings and ribbon too but both sold out😞.
    Thank you so much.
