KITCHEN UPDATE: OUR NEW CUSTOM ROMAN SHADES!

|

I am sooooo excited. Really excited! Today I’m talking about our new custom roman shades! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve seen the many updates we’ve made to this space over the years.

We’ve added open shelving, wall sconces, changed the lighting a couple of times – yes, more than once, because I have a lighting obsession – we’ve added new brass hardware, new barstools, and finally…our new custom roman shades from Martha and Ash!

I’ve put off covering our windows for 10 years! These shades are the perfect detail to finish off this space and I’m so excited to finally be sharing them with you.

Well, finished for now, that is. I still have big dreams of changing our range hood and installing marble tile to replace the ceramic some day. For now, I can say it feels so much more complete with our gorgeous hand-sewn shades.

Without further ado, please come and take a closer look! You will want some of your own too, I’m pretty convinced! A special thanks to Martha and Ash for gifting our gorgeous new roman shades! Affiliate links are provided throughout this post  – see my full disclosure policy here.

OUR GORGEOUS NEW ROMAN SHADES!White kitchen with black island and brass hardware. Roman shades with ribbon trim detail.

I’m in love. I still can’t believe I waited so long, but I must say it was well worth the wait. I wanted something classic and timeless with some traditional flair, but also a modern feel.

If you’re new here, you can see my Christmas kitchen post, before we installed our new shades, .

I decided on this beautiful linen blend fabric, in Bone, a soft white, the middle tone of three whites that Martha and Ash offers – Stark, Bone and Cream.

I have many variations of white throughout our kitchen as you can see, so choosing the most neutral was important. Roman shades with grey ribbon detailing.I wanted to contrast the color of the shades with a statement-making grey trim detail that would also compliment our black kitchen island. I chose a neutral grey tape trim with a stitched pattern for some traditional sensibility and modern flair.

I also love how the pattern compliments our Chinese Chippendale stools…the perfect pairing. This tape is coming soon to the Martha and Ash website, but it is available upon request! White kitchen with windows flanking the custom range hood, roman shades with ribbon detail.

Aren’t they just beautiful? These flanking shades make such a statement on our statement wall! They add just the right amount of visual punctation over here with all of the white hues that are happening. White kitchen with windows flanking the custom range hood, roman shades with ribbon detail.

Over our farm sink, the large shade brings this whole space together. I wouldn’t say it was boring over here before, but there was some interest that was lacking.

Now, it feels finished, and again, that graphic punch adds just the right amount of oomph this wall needed.White farm sink with brass faucet and pendant light and custom Roman shade window covering.

I think the grey trim pulls everything together and grounds all of the different elements – the light, hardware and faucet are more complete visually.

It’s amazing how something as simple as a roman shades can do so much! I’m still excited over here ;)White farm sink with brass faucet and pendant light and custom Roman shade window covering.White farm sink with brass faucet and pendant light and custom Roman shade window covering. Roman shades are classic and they’ve long been a favorite of mine. I love the way our shades also tie into my vintage-inspired area rug, which also has different grey tones throughout.

Our built-in open shelves look that much better too! White shades would have been beautiful, but the contrast trim detail was a necessity in our space…like adding eyeliner or mascara!Kitchen with ivory cabinets, brass hardware and lighting, open shelves with white and glass accessories. Custom roman shades on windows. Our shades are made with blackout lining, which is perfect for us, and is a standard feature. There’s also the option of cotton lining as well.

I used a little trick and tucked my cords inside the shades for my photos, and my custom roman shades are made with a ‘cord lock’, which functions just like a standard blind. Cordless options are also available too!White kitchen with builtin open shelves, brass hardware and lighting, roman shades with ribbon detail.Traditional kitchen with brass accents, Chinese Chippendale stools and custom roman shades on windows.

All shades from Martha and Ash are sewn by hand in their shop in South Carolina, and they all come with an interlining, sewn in under the lining, making them plush and truly luxe in feel.

I didn’t shoot this detail, but the finishing on the back is just as beautiful, with a gorgeous passementerie ribbon trim. Such an elegant and unexpected detail that I just love!Traditional kitchen with brass accents, Chinese Chippendale stools and custom roman shades on windows. You can have your own shades custom ordered too if you want! Stunning with the island, right? I keep saying it, I know. But these truly are so fabulous!

I’m all about a sophisticated and elegant look that’s also liveable and approachable, and our new roman shades fit the bill perfectly.

I’m happy I did wait though, because for the longest time, I didn’t know if I wanted an allover pattern, or if I should have them hang above the window to accentuate the height of the space.White kitchen with brass hardware, custom rangehood, roman blinds on windows.

I wasn’t quite sure about the right color to go with either, since I have so much blue throughout our home, and it’s my favorite color.

Which, by the way, I almost chose instead of the grey. As much as I love my blue, I’m happy I went with this choice instead.White kitchen with brass hardware, custom rangehood, roman blinds on windows.White kitchen with brass hardware, custom rangehood, roman blinds on windows.

The neutral grey is perfect in our kitchen, I have black accents throughout our home as well – our island, and all of our interior doors are also black.

Even though black trim would be beautiful, it needed to be a just a touch softer for me, so I decided on this beautiful warm grey, which was the perfect choice.White kitchen with brass hardware, custom rangehood, roman blinds on windows.White kitchen with brass hardware, custom rangehood, roman blinds on windows.

That’s a wrap, my friends! I hope you love them as much as I do!

Hi! Unfortunately I don’t have any brand names or color names for the cabinets, but the island is black and the rest are ivory. The counters are engineered quartz by Caesaerstone, the color is Misty Carrera. Our backsplash is a very inexpensive 3 x 6″ white subway tile that we purchased at Home Depot. I hope that helps! Thank you for reading !! xo
