CHIC & SIMPLE SUMMER LIVING ROOM DECOR

|

Summer is officially here, and it’s definitely become my favorite season. Our summers here are so short, so I love to take it all in as much as possible. We spend most of our time outside in our backyard by our pool – I shared a chic update of that space you might want to see, I think you’ll love it. Today, I’m sharing our chic and simple summer living room decor – and when I say simple, I mean just a few minimal updates and we have a freshly updated seasonal look. I used faux green florals to bring in gorgeous pops of color, some chic green ginger jars, artwork, beautiful pillow covers, rotated some accessories and that’s about it. Even though summer is laidback, it can be so hectic at the same time. I like simplicity when it comes to seasonal decorating changes, especially at this time of year. I find just a few key switches is really all you need. Come into our summer living room and have a look around!

CHIC & SIMPLE SUMMER LIVING ROOM

I love looking outside at this time of year and seeing all of the lush greenery that surrounds us. It brings me so much joy! We live in a very wooded neighborhood and the summers are gorgeous here.

Using the vibrant greenery outside as my inspiration, I wanted to add a few green touches throughout to carry the feeling into our home.

Let’s talk about how simple this was to do!

I kept the styling on our bookshelves mostly the same as I had them styled in our spring living room, I just removed the yellow accents that were there. Our shelves are filled with many pieces that I love and I like to keep them mostly the same.

I brought out my beautiful green ginger jars from storage and styled them on our buffet, in this pretty scalloped tray that was in our spring entryway – they add such a chic pop of color, don’t you think? I left everything else as is. I told you this was simple!

I layered in these pretty little lime green snowball hydrangeas, I absolutely love them and how vibrant they are – the perfect pop of summer color that adds a gorgeous visual layer to my summer living room decor.

I used four stems to create a lush, full arrangement. Each stem has seven flower heads. You always need more florals than you think – I always like to create a full, lush arrangement.

To add more color, vibrant, digital artwork for our tv helps to balance it all out. This is actually photoshopped into these images today, since I can’t always capture the true essence of the image on our tv screen in a photo.

You can see how it gives you the idea of what color and art can bring to a space. I love adding a beautiful image on our tv, it changes the entire room and the greens and blues in this piece are perfect in here!

One of my favorite views of our home is from this perspective – I love to look from the back of our home to the front to take it all in.

Decorating an open concept home can seem overwhelming, since the rooms have to have continuity and visual flow. Don’t be intimidated, it’s easier than you think – you just need to visually balance color from one space to the next.

Keeping that in mind at all times, I used more green florals in our entryway and dining room as well, for a cohesive color palette. You’ll always find something blue in each space, but I also like to use my seasonal colors or florals if can.

You can see a sneak peek into our laundry room in the images below, with our gorgeous new chinoiserie wallpaper.

I can’t wait to share that space with you, we made a few small updates and it’s a totally different room. We love how bright it is now, and how it visually pops from all angles in our home. So chic!

I was so thrilled when I found these chic pillow covers, with this fresh and pretty hydrangea motif. More simple living room decor – a pretty pillow with a seasonal motif or color. These are a total steal and the quality for the price is so good!

They complement our gorgeous striped pillow covers, which are high-end, designer covers that made their original debut in our coastal chic summer living room a number of years ago.

I loved the striped fabric so much, I bought some to recover our kitchen stools at the time as well. You can visit our summer kitchen from that same year to see them and get inspiration. Our kitchen has changed quite a bit since then, but you’ll still find beautiful ideas and decorating tips.

We have new drapes in here for summer as well and they’re perfect. We went with a whiter fabric that has a lighter, airier look, perfect for summer. The chic trim is the same one I used in our bedroom – I just love the classic design so much.

I love how they frame the view outside our back patio doors – the greenery and blue trim on the drapes together are so gorgeous and make me so happy.

Our kitchen also has new roman shades with the same trim and the look is stunning altogether in our home – everything is so much brighter, it’s really beautiful – stay tuned for that space coming soon also!

Hi Lu! Thank you so much for the kind words! You can’t have enough hydrangeas! Our sofa is discontinued, so this sofa is a similar style that I think is a good match and I also know it’s a popular seller at Pottery Barn. Our sofa color is an ivory and the fabric is a heavy polyester. I would order samples first if it’s an option and if not, try the ivory or warm white. I hope this helps!

The lounge looks beautiful and the addition of the green makes everything pop!

  4. I love the simplicity of your summer living room! Hydrangeas are my favorite summer flowers, so I’m ordering the faux that you recommend on the product list. I’m ready for a new sofa, so I clicked on the sofa link— it took me to a pottery barn slipcover page. As a starting point, would you please tell me which fabric style and color you have? I can explore colors from there. Thanks so much.
