SIMPLE SUMMER DINING ROOM DECORATING

| |

I hope you’re having an amazing summer so far! We’re into our summer full swing over here. I promised I’d be sharing more summer ideas with you, and today I’m sharing my simple summer dining room decorating. It doesn’t take much to change the feel of your room with a few easy things to lighten and brighten your space for the warmer months.

As most of you know, our dining room has changed quite drastically in the past year! We went from deep, rich black walls, to light and airy grey walls with new moldings, lighting, rug, art and furniture. If you’ve never seen the before, you can check it out here – it’s a huge transformation! Come in and take a look what I’ve pulled together for the summer.

OUR NEW LIGHT BLUE ( + VERY AFFORDABLE!) DINING CHAIRS

You may have seen a peek at our new light blue dining room chairs that I recently found (see their debut here), and I have to say, I am loving the brightness they bring to this space. Our previous chairs were a mix of dark brown oval-back chairs and beige chairs with a brass ring detail – which I still love – but I also love to change things up as so many of you know, and I wanted to finally update the chairs in this space.Don’t worry, you’ll still see the beige chairs make an appearance in our home – right now they’re flanking the laundry room door, just off our entryway – you’ll see them when I share my summer entryway, coming to the blog soon too. The brown chairs are now in the basement where I have a little office space the kids use for homework and tutoring.

Speaking of making an appearance – our lion head bunny, Oscar, was very happy to hang out in one of his favorite spots while I shot this space…he always loves to be part of the action when I’m moving furniture or taking my pictures!

Our dining room is open to our entryway and the hallway that leads to the bedrooms, and also faces our living room. I recently shared my summer living room (see more here), with a focus on light blue and white, striped pillows and some beautiful coastal elements. I wanted to carry a few of those elements into this space as well, with a focus on light blue, as well as pretty white accessories styled on the table.

STYLE YOUR DINING TABLE WITH BEAUTIFUL OBJECTS!

I certainly love a gorgeous centrepiece to draw your eye into the center of a room, especially a lush, full arrangement of fresh flowers. But I also love a gorgeous vignette styled with beautiful objects to create a focal point.

Here I used some of my favorite coral pieces, some showcased in pretty, covered mini cake stands. I used a couple of design books – which I’m always incorporating into my arrangements. Fresh and faux flowers and my white ginger jar finish the look and bring in some added variation. Summer whites collected together to tell a beautiful story!

This tells a story of things I love and that have some meaning to me. When I buy or collect pieces for our home, it’s not because they’re necessarily trendy (although some are!), but because they speak to me. Your home should speak about what you love and who you are, not what someone else tells you it should look like.

LAYER THROW PILLOWS IN UNEXPECTED PRINTS

I love pattern and love to layer and mix different prints together. I chose to focus the pattern mixing on the settee and keep the chairs simple with my white and navy greek key pillows. I’m kind of a pillow addict and can never have enough!
I found this gorgeous lumbar pillow in a beautiful Antelope print from Willa Skye Home, in Ash Gray. I love it combined with my bold blue and grey ikat pillows and how the two patterns play off each other. They make a strong statement with my artwork also, which I really love.

I didn’t have the right size pillow insert – the cover is 12 x 36″ and I used two, 12 x 18″ inserts. I used some extra foam padding and wrapped it around them in the center, to create a single form. It’s not perfect but does the trick :)

KEEPING IT LIGHT AND AIRY

Overall, I’m very happy with the way this space turned out, especially since our makeover last year. I loved it before, but I am in love with it now. You may remember that my abstract art was my own DIY experiment, which I am so proud of! Not bad for a first try! I’m thinking of changing it up (yes, again!) with some artwork that’s a little bit softer, now that my color palette has gone that route with our new chairs. That doesn’t mean I won’t still use this one and switch them around!

I’m thinking another abstract, with softer lines and colors – some creams, very light blues and greys, and maybe some touches of beiges or golds. I haven’t decided if I’ll paint it myself (which I probable will) or look for something. With what I have in mind, I think it will be perfect with the room’s lighter colors. Stay tuned for that also!

Before I wrap this up, I want to share one of my dear friend’s incredibly gorgeous summer dining room with you! Bree, from ZDesignAtHome is one of my blogging besties (we went to visit Delta together last month and had a blast!), and she is a huge inspiration to me. Her style is modern and chic and so refreshing, you will love her tips on styling with natural elements and faux greenery. Just click the image to head over!

That wraps how I created this look for my summer dining room decorating, I hope you enjoyed it and found something that might inspire you! I’ll be back with more summer decorating in my entryway and my kitchen soon! Stay tuned for an artwork update and possible DIY if I can actually pull off what I’m envisioning! xo
