SIMPLE SUMMER DECORATING IDEAS FOR YOUR ENTRYWAY
Today I’m sharing some quick and easy ways to bring a gorgeous summer look to your entryway. If you’re new to CitrineLiving, welcome! I recently made over our entryway this past winter in two days and a few small changes – some chalk paint on our console table – it was so easy to do – a new rug, and a mirror from our bedroom (see the full makeover here). It was a very inexpensive project that went far beyond the decorating dollars spent – now we have a gorgeous, bright and airy space that we love. With those few changes, we were able to get a brand new look in here. I always love a fabulous makeover, however, with each new season, it’s not very practical or realistic to redecorate your entire home. I love to swap out accessories and move things from room to room, or pull out some pieces from storage. In this case, I created a casual and elegant look in our entryway by adding two new accessories, and a few old favorites. With these simple decorating ideas, you can do the same in your home. *Affiliate links are provided throughout, or at the bottom of this post for your shopping convenience – see my full disclosure policy here.
I have a few pieces on this table that have not left since they landed here during the makeover. My greek key gold tray, burl wood box (similar), agate bookends, as well as my favorite fashion coffee table book. They’ve sort of become my staples in here, along with a touch of my all-time favorite decorating go-to, blue and white – in this case a small little ginger jar I picked up in Chinatown last year.
I’ve been adding baskets and woven pieces throughout our home this summer – something I did decide to spend a little money on – and I just love the look they bring to our home this season. I found this gorgeous banana leaf basket, I love the texture and warmth it brings to this vignette, and how it balances out the brass mirror and large, over-scale lantern. As for my new lantern, I love this piece – it makes a strong statement but is not overdone, and it works anywhere I try it. Definitely a piece that I will use for years to come. Bringing in these two key accessories help to define my summer theme and they balance each other on the console visually. DECORATING TIP : These two larger items are opposite each other – ‘diagonally’ placed on the top and bottom to create visual balance.

A pair of glass hurricane lanterns, a coral sculpture and a few fresh florals in a white ginger jar were all I needed to up my summer game in here. So simple and now we have a gorgeous summer look in this space. The glass pieces keep the feeling from looking ‘over accessorized’ and they help to add an airy coastal feel as well. I purposely left them empty, since I have a candle in the large brass lantern, and I love the clean look they bring to the table. DECORATING TIP : Fill glass containers with light coloured rocks, shells, or any other natural element you love to bring in the season.
I clearly have a thing for lanterns – I can spot six right here in this photo below! From our large, statement porch lighting (find it here), which is one of my favorites ever, to the new large brass lantern on the table, there is something about them that bring a warm and welcoming feel to any space.
I love the beautiful hammered texture of this lantern. DECORATING TIP: Bring in different textures to create visual interest. Here’s a peek of our living room bookshleves through the reflection in the mirror – more woven accessories, textures, pattern and my favorite blue and white staples. If you haven’t had a chance to tour our living room, you can check it out here for some more summer decorating ideas that you can easily use in your home. DECORATING TIP: Repeat items throughout your home like I have done with baskets and woven accessories, from your entryway to your backyard, for continuity throughout your home.
What I love about having a console table here with shelves is the flexibility to create a new look by simply switching accessories. Last year I wrote a post showcasing four different looks in this space. You can read the post here and get some fabulous styling tips that you can use any time of the year.

Hi Cheryl,
Please don’t apologize! I’m happy to help if I can! I don’t know these colors, so sorry! The best advice I can give, is to get small test cans and paint large swatches on cardboard and move them around to see what they look like in different lighting. Sometimes you can even buy large sheets with the color. Or just paint sections of your walls to test if you prefer. Paint is never the same on the small swatch, in a book, or in the store and it is always different from one space to the next. Lighting is the biggest factor and can change color drastically – room to room, day to night, season to season! So the best place to start is testing and take your tome deciding. I’ve had to repaint several times through the years by making that mistake! Hope this is helpful! xo
Sorry I didn’t mean to make that post twice, but I added something else about the blues. And I’m sorry that I asked a similar question when I clicked on another section. Would Pale Oak or Drift of Mist be good choices be good for hallways and such? Thank you so much for you help!
Hi! I answered you in a different post with the same question, but here it is again! The bottom cabinets are ivory but I don’t have an the color! All of our original cabinets (except the island) are a polyester material – which is like laminate. When our new drawers and dishwasher door were added, we had the cabinet maker match the ivory color, so it is custom. We painted our upper cabinets Simply White by Benjamin Moore, which we absolutely love. It’s a beautiful warm, creamy white, and still bright and not yellow at all. I think that would be a great color for your blues – but just make sure to test your paint samples first! I hope this helps you! xo
Hi! It’s 9 x 12!
What is the size of the area rug in your family room?
What is the cream color on your bottom kitchen cabinets, and what would be a good cream color for an overall kitchen space? I’ll have white countertops, Naval blue or Indigo Batik, for the island base.
What is the cream color that you’ve used on your lower kitchen cabinets? And what would be a good overall cream color for a kitchen where I might want to paint small in-between wall spaces as well?
Hi Sherri! Than you very much! The wall color is Collingwood by BM, and the table is a very light grey, the lightest I could find.. I used chalk paint to repaint it! I hope that helps! Thank you for reading with me! xo
Stunning kitchen! Could you tell me what color is on the walls of the foyer and the color of the cabinet? You’ve inspired me!
