RED, WHITE AND GOLD HOLIDAY TABLESCAPE WITH A TWIST

Today, I would like to welcome you back again, this time, into our newly updated, neutral dining room (see more of this recent transformation here), featuring my first Christmas tablescape of the season. I’m so excited to share today’s tablescape with you – a red, white and gold holiday tablescape with a twist. The twist is a little surprise I know you’ll love, so keep on reading!

Creating this table was so much fun for a few different reasons. First of all, it’s Christmas! Like everyone else, I LOVE Christmas and creating fun and unique tables is something I truly love to do. Secondly, with all of the entertaining most of us enjoy during this busy time, I wanted to create a table that would be quick, effortless and elegant – something that anyone can pull together without stress. Lastly, with those two things in mind, I turned to a different approach that I think so many of us should use when we entertain, and much more often than we realize…I have a very big family and holidays are hectic. My sisters and I have come to realize that the time we spend in the kitchen dampens our fun and instead of sitting together enjoying conversation, we’re always cleaning up. For hours. We actually made the conscious decision a few years ago to use disposable tableware to help minimize the task. We’ve even starting preparing all of the food in – GASP! – disposable trays and cookware. When we first devised this plan, it was so strange to think of the holidays this way. After a few years of practice however, we would not have it any other way. Yes, we do still use regular dishware as well, but on many occasions, with all of the prep work, and our parents’ house full of 18+ very enthusiastic, mostly adult family members, we’ve changed our ways, so we can all spend quality time together after our meal. 

Now for the twist…With that idea in mind, I wanted to create a fabulous table to share with you. Something to wow guests and make them want to linger. I wanted to make sure that with this table, quality time is spent relaxing afterward, over coffee, dessert and conversation. Getting up immediately to clear dirty dishes and wash up for hours afterward is something no one wants to do. I came across this beautiful disposable tableware from Sophistiplate (which is designed and made in Italy) and I was so thrilled, I couldn’t contain myself – not just for this table, but now we can entertain for our family holidays in serious style too. We’ve used some very nice options in the past, but nothing this pretty, festive or elegant – and nothing with the color and pattern selection to create an entire set like this one.
I decided I wanted something truly festive, and while I’ve never used red for Christmas, believe it or not, I wanted to go with something completely different than I’m used to with this look. Since this is my first tablescape in our updated dining room, I wanted a true pop of vibrant color to bring the table to life. I decided on the Classic Gold Holiday Set  and I love how saturated and vibrant it looks in our dining room.My holiday decor is silver and gold this year (which you’ll see next week when I launch my full Christmas home tour), so this was the perfect opportunity to throw in a pop of color. I’ve also shared a few peeks on Instagram. I used some vibrant blues in last year’s Christmas home tour decor, which you can see here. This year, I wanted to go with something a little more glam.
Going more neutral was part of my plan for this season, so I could play with different palettes whenever I feel like it. In order to execute my plan successfully, I recently updated our living room ottoman from a vibrant blue pattern, to a subtle ‘greige’ (a mix between grey and beige) pattern, so my holiday decor would be the star. Back to my table, I layered my paisley gold, tone on tone tablecloth with a white runner which has a soft gold edge to create a backdrop for the rich layers of gold and red from the tableware.

The polkadot napkins are so cute and fun and I wanted to play that up by using my silver beaded chargers to add another layer to the table.

I found these adorable mini cake stands with a tiny dot motif to echo the beaded charger and printed napkin. I thought the idea of using them as a drink holder was fun, so I pulled out my gold print glassware from West Elm to play off of it as well.Each place setting is adorned with a gold and silver gift wrapped favor for each guest.

The center of the table is lined with a collection of white snowy tree candles gathered at the center (I chose not to light them because I think they’re just too pretty!) flanked by these beautiful snow globes, and glass hurricanes filled with clear beads for an icy-cool effect against the scattered red ornaments.

I love the vibrancy and whimsy that this table brings to our dining room for Christmas. What I love even more is using a color palette I wouldn’t normally use and if you know me by now, you know how much I love to layer, experiment and try new things. This disposable tableware makes that so simple to pull it off without the commitment of purchasing expensive items. Thank you for stopping by to enjoy my first holiday tablescape, I’m so happy you took the time to join me!
