DINING ROOM IN BLOOM

Welcome to my Dining Room Spring Tour! Well, it’s not really a ‘tour’ as much as it is a look at how I brought some Spring elements to my dining table, so this is more of a Spring tablescape! If you follow my blog regularly or my Instagram feed, then by now you know of my love for anything blue and white Chinoiserie. I have a small collection of vases, ginger jars and dishes that I’m slowly growing. I have a such passion for these gorgeous vessels, I use them all over our home in various ways. You can see how I used the same one that you see in the center of my table, HERE, in my Spring entrance post.

I also love pattern and I love to mix different patterns in unconventional ways. If you’re visiting for the first time, then you’ll learn quickly that our dining room is on the smaller side. You may not think of painting your walls black in a small space, but it actually creates a very warm and cozy feeling that just wraps you up. I wanted a room with a sense of drama so I layered exotic prints with my dark walls (Cracked Pepper by Behr Paints), for an eclectic vibe. I still don’t have a full set of chairs in here yet – I’ve been searching for a set Chinese Chippendale chairs for quite some time. THESE ones would be ideal, but they’re out of my budget so I’m on the hunt for a vintage pair.

I want to show you our dining room from a few different angles so you can get a sense of this space. It’s open on two sides with windows on the third wall – we have our buffet facing this room, backing the sofa in the family room.

I love having a settee in here, it’s a real treat for guests when we entertain, and I love to sit here sometimes (when I actually have time!) and enjoy a cup of coffee. I kept the spring arrangements on the two cabinets very simple. Just a mix of hydrangeas in glass cylinders. They’re faux and I’ve collected them for years. I LOVE faux flowers, they are so versatile and you can use them all year round.

There’s a glimpse of the buffet, to the right – it houses all of my china and stemware. The two cabinets that flank the settee hold more stemware and barware.

Here’s a view from the family room. You can see how I use my jars all over! They really are timeless and they work in any space. I’ve gathered some for you again, as I’ve done in previous posts. Just be warned that once you start collecting them, you cannot stop!

SHOP BLUE AND WHITE HERE :

Now let’s talk about my tablescape. I layered a white tablecloth with two runners, running in both directions, crosswise. I wanted the linens to complement the floral arrangements but ground them at the same time. The yellow runner helps tie the flowers on the table, the hydrangeas and the handpainted wineglasses together.

The obvious choice for Spring decor is anything garden inspired. I really wanted everything on the table to support this idea, but with a Chinoiserie feel. I wanted boldness, yet chic and sophisticated, so I kept it soft and made sure that each element would tie in to this concept. I used my blue and white ginger jars and vases in varying heights to create the look and I wanted a symmetrical feel, so everything you see flanking the center jar is in pairs.

Here’s a closer look at the beautiful birds – I stole them from my daughter’s room for this setting! They fit in perfectly with my theme and she was so happy that I used them! I love to incorporate decorative objects from around the house when I create my tablescapes. I always find it adds interest and makes a table feel more special.

You won’t believe it when I tell you that most of these flowers are from the dollar store. I am simply amazed at the quality you can get from there. I LOVE shopping at the dollar store for so many things – especially seasonal items. The roses were a splurge from many years ago. I still love them to this day. But can you believe how beautiful all these stems are?

I also layered in my trustworthy white foo dogs for added dimension and to carry out my Chinoiserie garden theme.

I’ve had the handpainted glassware for many years and I love to break it out in the Spring and Summer months.

The soft blue vintage glasses are the perfect addition to this layered look and they’re subtle color and texture adds just the right touch.

The dishes and napkins, all from HomeSense, are the perfect fit for this table as well. The shape of the dishes reinforce my Chinoiserie feeling and I love that they’re different than what you’d typically find. I found a beautiful vintage set for you HERE and a brand new set HERE.

I really love how perfectly it all came together.

You can create something similar with any color jars and vases, just be sure to keep it all cohesive when layering your objects on the table.
