FRONT PORCH REFRESH: THE PERFECT LAYERS FOR SPRING AND SUMMER!
It’s been a while since I’ve shared our front porch and I am thrilled to share our most recent front porch refresh with you. I have been itching to get outside and while the temperature is still a little chilly we’ve been cleaning, primping, pool-opening and of course, decorating and styling around our home outdoors. I love this time of year so much and it feels so fabulous to have a chic and elegant update on our front porch. With just a few simple touches, we’ve elevated the look of our home and curb appeal for spring. Soon we’ll be layering palms and potted flowers (it’s still early here for that), which will complete the look even more for summer. For now, come and have a look at our front porch refresh!

HOW TO DECORATE YOUR FRONT PORCH

I always love a simple decorating update and honestly, these new pieces we’ve layered together for our front porch refresh are absolutely perfect for our home. Timeless, elegant and so chic – just the way I love it.

With just a few simple additions to our front porch, we’ve created a fresh, chic look for spring that will last well into summer as the weather warms up and we plant our flowers and plants. Keep reading all the way down for our front porch refresh tips!
HOW TO DECORATE YOUR FRONT PORCH
- Add a rug in front of the door – go bigger than you think! Ours is 4 x 6′ and the perfect scale for our front porch. We chose a blue rug since it’s the dominant color throughout our home and it sets the tone for our color story here as well.
- Create symmetry with planters or urns. Our urns flank our traditional style front door and the the look reinforces the overall classic feel of our home.
- Layer in greenery! Even if it’s not planting season yet (right now it’s still too cold here for us), you can go with faux! Our boxwood topiaries are so chic and elegant!
- Hang a lush wreath for more layers of greenery that also adds texture and contrast to your front door. We chose this beautiful wreath with white flowers so it’s more visible from the street.
- Bring in seating – depending on your space, add a chair or two, a sofa, or bench like we did – it creates the perfect perch for reading, having morning coffee or simply a spot to enjoy all the outdoor sights and sounds.
- Layer your seating with pretty pillows – add more visual interest with pattern and color by layering in some beautiful textiles that coordinate with your decor.
- Layer in a pair of lanterns for more symmetry, visual interest and ambient light at night.
- Add a chic garden stool that acts as a plant stand or side table for a drink. We use these allover our home, inside and out! They are one of the most versatile decorating pieces you can own. You can also use a small table as well.
- Top it off with a pretty vase or ginger jar with more greenery to bring in some visual balance and adda verdant layer.
LAYER YOUR PORCH WITH THE PERFECT RUG

You know I love my blues, and what better way to welcome guests with a rug in your favorite color? This indoor/outdoor rug is perfect on our front porch and I love the generous size – at 4 x 6′ it fits perfectly here and feels so nice underfoot.
It’s a beautiful pop of color and sets the tone for our color palette out here, as well as inside our home, since blue is a dominant color throughout our home.
ADD SYMMETRY WITH PLANTERS OR URNS

We added these elegant black urns (they come in brown and white also) flanking our front door, to play up the traditional elements we already have happening in our home. I always love beautiful urns that create a classic, timeless look.

HANG A LUSH WREATH AND ADD GREENERY

We love our new urns so much and since it’s still too cold for real plants, we topped them with these chic faux boxwood topiary balls – I absolutely love the look!
I was on the fence at first – I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about having something faux outside, but they’re so gorgeous and they’re staying!

Our urns are about 20″ tall with a 10″ opening, these topiaries are 15.75″ in diameter, and the scale is perfect. The added layer of greenery in front of our black front door is so beautiful.

Our new wreath is the perfect piece for spring and summer. It creates visual interest and adds gorgeous texture on our front door. The white flowers add contrast and help make the wreath more visible from the street.

The wreath and topiary balls add more verdant color on our front porch refresh, which we just love out here amongst all the layers of grey tones from the siding and stone.

BRING IN SOME COMFORTABLE SEATING & TEXTILES

We decided to layer in this chic outdoor bench on the right side of the front door – this a corner that usually doesn’t always get attention. It’s amazing how much this seating has warmed up our front porch and creates a whole new welcoming feeling out here.

We added classic striped pillows layered with gorgeous chinoiserie navy blue pillows – more layers of blue that play into the color scheme of our home.

I love the trellis detailing of the bench woodwork, it lends a chinoiserie element out here which I really love with my double happiness ginger jar. It’ll be especially beautiful once we plant our flowers in all of my blue and white planters.

We have this pair of woven wicker outdoor chairs, shown below, on the far side of the front porch which aren’t the focus today, as they need to be replaced and are hanging on by a thread right now! You can’t see from far, but the weaving is all broken…so sad because I love them!

ADD A CHIC GARDEN STOOL OR SMALL SIDE TABLE

This chic garden stool is one of my favorites and echoes the trellis of the bench, as well as the pillows. Repeating motifs is always something I try to incorporate, whatever space I’m decorating.
I’ll forever love garden stools – they’re the most versatile piece and I love to use them allover our home, indoors and out. They’re great for extra seating, side tables, or as a base for layered decor, I just love to use them anywhere.

That wraps up my front porch refresh today, we love how it came together and how elegant, comfortable and welcoming it is! I hope you love it as much as we do and that you’re inspired to style your outdoor space too. xo
