SUMMER LIVING ROOM DECORATING: BLUE + GREEN + NATURAL ELEMENTS
There’s just something about summer isn’t there? Open doors, fresh air, green foliage. Bright colors, woven textures. A relaxed, casual elegance. A color palette of beautiful blues, gorgeous greens, shades of white, combined with natural textures and elements – I think this is my favorite seasonal decor to date and I’m so excited to share my summer living room decorating with you today.
I’m also thrilled to be joining an amazing group of talented bloggers, for our 2020 Summer Home Tour, hosted by the very talented Marty, of A Stroll Thru Life. Thank you, Marty for inviting me to join! I’m sharing this week’s full lineup at the bottom of my post.
If you’re visiting me from Erica, of Designing Vibes and her beautiful summer tour, welcome! I love Erica’s fabulous boho-chic style, she makes it look so effortless and is so talented! We met in person a few years ago and she is as gorgeous on the outside as she is kind and humble on the inside. You’ll love her!
I hope you enjoy this post and my summer living room decorating (it’s a long one, sorry!) and find some inspiration while you’re here, I’m so thrilled to have you!
I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Safavieh, Coterie Home and Lauren Haskell Designs for gifting product for our living room. Affiliate links are provided throughout this post – see my full disclosure policy here.
SUMMER LIVING ROOM DECORATING
First things first – if you’re a regular reader, can you spot what’s new?? Our gorgeous hand-loomed jute rug from Safavieh! I’ve been wanting a natural woven rug in our living room for so long, and this one, from Safavieh’s Natural Fibre Collection, could not be more perfect. Truly.
The relaxed, beachy vibe, the beautiful natural texture, that chic pattern – it’s a perfect fit in our space (this is 9 x 12). I love the relaxed elegance it brings to our home. It feels great underfoot, and luckily, our lionhead bunny, Oscar hasn’t decided to feast on it yet (he roams free around the house), ha! That was a real concern but so far, so good, thankfully! We love the tone it sets for this space and I’m so happy with the gorgeous look. You may also notice some new additions to my ginger jar collection from Lauren Haskell Designs. I added a few small touches with the prettiest blue and gorgeous green throughout our living room.
Both are custom colors from the chart available on the Lauren’s site, Lo Home (Green SC-43 + Blue FN-031), which excites me even more! There are so many styles of jars and options to choose from on her site, there’s something for everyone.
I just wish I had even more of these vibrant beauties. I gathered many of my ginger jars together on our mirrored buffet to create a beautiful, statement-making vignette. So pretty!
If you know me, then you know about my love for beautiful pillows too. I’m always adding new ones to my roster and rotating my favorites. This season, I found these beautiful floral pillows from Coterie Home, and these gorgeous sky blue solid frame pillows from Lauren Haskell in the softest, prettiest shade of blue.
Jenny Tamplin, of Coterie Home, was so amazing helping me choose the right pillows for my summer theme, and her site is full of so many gorgeous and chic pieces. The floral pillows were the jumping off point for my summery blue and green color palette, and this large-scale, floral pattern, Davenport by Kravet, was the ideal print to help bring my vision to life. These pillows are truly exquisite and the floral is gorgeous together with the soft blue – the combination plus all of the other touches of blue, green and natural elements in here, make my heart so happy!
I’m going to have some trouble changing things up this fall. I could keep this look year round that’s for sure.
I’ve said it many times, I need to move south, preferably near the ocean. Florida is calling! Or California, I would gladly take either one!
SUMMER DECORATING ON OUR BOOKSHELVES
I love symmetry – one of the fundamental elements of classic design. Something about it just makes me happy. Maybe it’s my OCD tendencies for everything to be just right, ha! I love the way it creates calm and a gives sense of tranquility to any space.
We built our bookshelves in here to do just that and also to create a focal point. I always style them with a symmetrical sensibility, using it where I can and balancing it out with some asymmetry also. I wanted to bring in a few touches of greenery, sprinkled around our shelves. I used woven baskets with some faux greenery stems (similar here and here) and a mix of different sized dried moss balls, which by the way, I love!
They’re a great way to add greenery without having to only use real or faux stems. They look great gathered in a bowl just about anywhere.
Aren’t these punchy blue ginger jars (custom color FN-031) just fabulous? Love them paired with my pale blue jars, blue and white chinoiserie pieces and gorgeous green touches.
I’ve decorated these shelves many different ways, and for my summer living room decorating, I wanted to bring in a touch more color. My favorite tried-and-true blue and white pieces always work, and with the added greens, it’s the perfect summery feel.
Warm, neutral-toned pieces, like my horses, decorative inlay box, wood and brass candleholders and gold frames (which I often have styled here), balance out all the blues and are a gorgeous compliment to our new rug. Did I mention how much I I love this rug?
SUMMER DECORATING ON OUR OTTOMAN
I came close to recovering our ottoman in something pale blue to match the pillows and add a pop of color, but in the end I decided to leave it as is.
This piece has had a few different coverings, and this one from Tonic Living is my favorite so far. I used the same fabric to recover our kitchen stools recently (click here to see them), and they look so good!
Admittedly, I don’t change the decor on our ottoman that much from season to season. It’s usually styled with blue and white, real or faux flowers, books and pretty objects that I love. I’ll swap out a couple of things each season, or change the books depending on my color palette, but mostly it stays the same.
I wanted to create a large-scale floral arrangement to make a strong summer statement. I found these beautiful snowball hydrangea stems at Michael’s. I love them in my blue and white vase.
I used 19 stems (I would have used more if they had more!), and by bending the stems downward and separating them, it creates a full, beautiful arrangement. My new vibrant green ginger jar is such a pretty addition on our ottoman too! This custom color (SC-43) is perfect and paired with the blue it is so beautiful, don’t you think? The only thing I’m missing is a woven tray. I had no time to source one, but I still love my gold leaf tray that I refinished years ago. I think it’s time for a little refresh since it’s pretty chippy looking lately, but I still love it.
You can see a peek at our entryway, where there’s some small updates happening in there too – stay tuned!

Hi, thank you so much! This is Collingwood by BM!
Stunning home decor! I am dying to know what color the wall paint is, I tried finding a similar color but could not find an exact match.
Thank you so much!! I’m constantly vacuuming our house! I’m a bit of a neat freak, ha! Thanks for stopping by!
Lovely decorating ideas for summer! That area rug in your living room is gorgeous! I have a large rug in my living room as well, but with 3 pets it is always dirty… so I feel like it makes the rest of the room look not put together. How do you keep your rug looking so clean and nice?
I love it all! Have you shared your paint colors before? I would love to know your wall, door, and trim colors- and any others you wish to share! (Apologies if this info is already posted and I’m just missing it!)
Thank you!
I love everything about this room! The fresh blue & white palette. That beachy rug. Those AMAZING chandeliers. And, of course, that wonderful ginger jar collection! I’m finally catching up with my fellow tour goers and your home is just lovely! :) Linda

I absolutely love your elegant and symmetrical take (I get the whole OCD thing haha)) on Summer. The new rug is such a beauty and it brings just the right amount of texture and pattern to an already stunning space. I hope you are doing well, beautiful lady. It was such a pleasure touring with you. xoxo
Just WOW. And the addition of green is so fresh and new, I can’t get over how much it says “summer”. Love everything about your tour, Tam.
Everything is so beautiful! I love the colors and all the ways you styled your living room! Your coffee table, the shelves the sofa table and all the pillows. It’s all stunning! Fun to tour with you!
Thank you very much Nancy, I’m so happy you stopped in! I am little addicted to ginger jars, I must admit! I would very gladly move to Florida and I would be happy to make new friends haha. Seriously though, my brother lives there and we hope eventually move some day. Who knows! I’m just jealous of all the beautiful sunshine you get there!!
Hi Claire, thank you very much! I actually framed those this past spring. I was looking for some free printable art at the time, so I googled chinoiserie and found some images of wallpapers that I love. I printed these and because they’re for small frames, I didn’t need to print high quality images. I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words! xo
Thank you very much Deb, so happy you liked it! xo
Marty thank you so much for your support and very kind words, I’m so happy you like everything, I truly appreciate it! Thank you as well for having me join in the tour, I am honored to be among such a very talented group! xo
Hi Laura, thank you so much, I’m so happy you like everything! I loved your tour and beautiful summer colors! xo
Your home is lovely. I love all the blue and white.
Wow! You have quite a ginger jar collection!
We would welcome you in Florida, but you can’t leave your doors open unless you want lizards and palmetto bugs for friends.😀
I love the framed blue floral prints that are on the right side of your bookshelf and would love to know where the design came from! This is all so beautifully balanced and I love the summery vibes!
What an amazing and beautiful living room!
Love your beautiful blue and green. All of your ginger jars are so pretty – especially that gorgeous green on the ottoman. Your home is always so well done and your choice of accessories creates such beautiful vignettes. I always love seeing how you change things up for the seasons. That rug really is such a stunning design and so perfect for the summer months. Thanks so much for joining the tour this season, your home is always a delight.
