FALL DECORATING : AN ELEGANT AND SIMPLE FRONT PORCH

| |

Do you like to decorate your porch for the different seasons? I usually do, but I always keep it pretty simple. Today I’m sharing my front porch decorated for fall and I’m so happy to be joining in with a very talented group of ladies for this blog tour! Please be sure to visit everyone touring with me today, all listed at the end of my post – you’ll be amazed by everyone’s talent!

If you’re coming here from Rebekah of A Blissful Nest and her gorgeous home, welcome! I’m thrilled to have you here, and I’m sure you loved everything over on Rebekah’s porch! Looking back at my porch, this past spring, I went with a little more decor than I usually do, and added lots of layers and bold hues of blue. You can see it all here. I really loved the look and having such an inviting space.

For summer, it was minimal and clean with only my ferns, and I even removed the throw pillows from our chairs. You can have a look at it here. This fall, I’m somewhere in between, I created a neutral and cozy sitting nook and put the focus on the steps and front door with rich, autumn hues. Come and have a look and let me know what you think!

Get ready, I’m sharing a lot of pictures today. I just photographed this the other night after dinner and I tried to capture as may shots as I could, while I still had good light. I really need a lesson in editing, I’ m the worst when it comes to narrowing down my own shots!A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.

Taking a little bit of a closer look, you’ll recognize the chairs are from our back patio. We just recently did an entire makeover in our backyard this summer, and if you haven’t seen it before, you really should (click here) – we’re still completely in love with that space! A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.

I kept the rest of the porch so simple, I did’t even use planters for the mums. These are just the simple containers I bought them in, and although some people may cringe at that thought, it really doesn’t bother me! The plants are so full, you hardly see them, and the black coordinates with our front porch.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.

FALL WREATH IN DEEP, RICH  HUES

I wanted the color focus on the steps to play off of my new wreath, which was a serious score at t HomeSense. I just love the rich colors, fullness, depth and layers of this gorgeous, lush wreath.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.

It’s quite large in scale about 24″ and fits the proportion of the door perfectly.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door. The deep plums and burnt oranges paired with the gold tones are just beautiful, and while I normally stick with more neutral tones, I just fell in love with this and had to have it!A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.

OUR POTTED PLANTS – KEEPING IT SIMPLE!

I replaced my ferns from spring and summer with my some of my favorite red ornamental grass. Since these were still quite small from the nursery, I clustered three together in each planter for fullness. I think I could have used four, for an even fuller look. I used a different type of grass last year (you can see it here), and I much prefer the deep burgundy of these ones.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.
I usually keep my colors to a minimum when it comes to florals and plants, but this fall I felt like going for a little more pop than usual – our wreath was my jumping off point for creating the focus.

CREATE A WELCOMING SEATING AREA

On the left of the steps and front door is our seating nook where we often have our morning coffee, or sit for a quiet evening in the summer.A simple and elegant front porch decorated for Fall with seasonal flowers in autumnal colors, and a sophisticated overscale wreath for the front door.

I decided to borrow our wingback chairs from the back patio to create a more welcoming feeling out here. I absolutely love these wingback style chairs, and I think I may need to get myself another set of them! Create a cozy seating nook on your front porch this Fall, layered with blankets, fresh hydrangeas and lanterns.

I clipped some of my hydrangeas from the garden – and they’ve turned the prettiest shade of green. Can you believe how full they are? They get absolutely huge by the end of the summer!

We see many passersby from this view – we have nature and horse trails right next to our home, and it’s a real treat when horses come down the street.

It’s really simple to create a look like this, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot either. I bought inexpensive plants and used lanterns from the patio tie this look together.
