OUR CLASSIC CHRISTMAS TREE WITH MIXED PLAID AND LUXE VELVET RIBBON
Our Christmas tree is finally here and I’m so excited to be sharing it with you today! Our home has been buried in Christmas bins, tree picks, greenery and ribbon all over the place for the last two weeks and I’m very happy to say that I’m almost finished decorating. It’s been quite a hectic time over here! This year, I’ve chosen to keep a classic and traditional look again, which I really think is just my favorite. We grew up with a very classic Christmas tree, decorated with pretty red bows and baby’s breath – an iconic eighties look, when country decorating was all the rage – my Mama was always such a style icon! The last few years I’ve been using plaid ribbon as the theme throughout our home, and I’m loving this year’s look more than ever. Our tree has a mix of two plaid ribbons – Dress Stewart in white, combined with a traditional red plaid, accented with a gorgeous, gold trimmed, navy blue velvet ribbon. Berry picks in off-white, gold, blue and red are scattered throughout our tree as well, with a mix of red, green and gold ball ornaments, and my favorite blue and white ginger jar ornaments. It’s chic and elegant and I think it even has a tiny bit of that eighties country feel to it – tell me what you think – I hope you love it as much as we do.

OUR CLASSIC CHRISTMAS TREE

I’ve been having a red plaid Christmas moment for the last few years, and I truly think this year’s tree is my favorite Christmas look so far. I realize I probably say this every year, but there’s something about a classic, nostalgic holiday vibe and this year is giving me all of that!

Navy blue is my color accent this year and it is truly gorgeous mixed in with the different plaids that are layered throughout our tree, mantel and our home. You can see peeks of our decor, pillows, mantel and new drapes, and how the look is tied together and threaded through all of these elements.
STYLING TIP
If you like the look of one main color palette and theme like we have, you’ll want to use your colors throughout your holiday home. Our ribbon is the focal point and from there, I’ve pulled out our home’s colors. Consistency and cohesiveness is key with this look – use your colors in your pillows, throws, florals/greenery and accessories as well – you only need a few touches here and there to achieve the look. Decorate with ribbon on vases garlands, mirrors, chairs, the possibilities are endless!

OUR GORGEOUS TOILE TREE SKIRT

To play up my classic Christmas tree look with that eighties country feel, I layered our beautiful new blue and white toile ruffled tree skirt with our blue velvet tree skirt, both from Cailini Coastal. The look is so pretty!

The ruffle detailing is gorgeous with an old-world romantic feel to it, and the fabric is a beautiful heavy weight.

Toile is a timeless, classic pattern that has been around for centuries. Toile du Jouy, a classic french pattern, dates back to 18th century France, and I love the historic charm our tree skirt lends to our Christmas tree this year. Especially contrasted with our mixed plaid bows, the juxtaposition is so chic!

A CLOSER LOOK AT SOME DETAILS

Here is a closer look at some of the details on our Christmas tree. You can see how I’ve pulled all of the colors from my plaid ribbons into the rest of the tree.
I have all of the colors working together with the berry picks and ornaments as well.

TREE DECORATING TIP
Fill your tree with gorgeous, billowy bows! I used a single loop technique – this Instagram tutorial will help you get the look. After you create your bows with your main ribbon, accent your tree in a thin wired ribbon for contrast and added texture.

You get to see glimpses today of our bookshelves, left mostly untouched from fall, styled in a monochromatic blue and white palette, with just a few carefully placed red accents for some contrast.
Our garland, which you’ll see more of in my Christmas living room post coming soon, is similar to our tree, with the same ribbon treatment and red and blue berry picks.

Our wreath, shown below, hangs between our patio french doors and is dressed up in a gorgeous toile bow that matches our toile ruffle tree skirt.
You’ll see more of these gorgeous bows on repeat throughout our home as well. The bow trend is a strong one again this year, but do they really ever go out of style for the holidays?

Chinoiserie touches, like my garden stool and ginger jar styled around our tree add visual interest and more pattern mixing, which I always love.

I hope you love our classic Christmas tree this year, with its mix of plaid and colorful accents, and that it inspires you to bring a touch of that old-world, country charm to your home this holiday season. Our Christmas living room is coming soon, stay tuned! xo
