ADDING GLAM TO CHRISTMAS DECOR

| |

tiffany-blue-gold-gift-wrap4fullsizerenderI always wondered what the word glamorous really means. I think it can be different things to different people. When I think of glamour, it’s something sophisticated, elegant, something that is just a little bit of an added touch that elevates the ordinary. When I was asked to join this blog tour by our fabulous and very glamorous host, Summer of She Leaves A Little Sparkle, and sponsored by Annie Selke, I couldn’t resist! Especially since I get to delve a little deeper and really think about the different ways of sprinkling some glam around in our Christmas decor this season. I think my style may already denote a little bit of glam here and there, maybe in a subtle way that brings the small details to the forefront. In my Christmas home tour that I shared the other day (you can see the tour here), you may have already seen some of these touches around our home, and today I’m going to talk about them in further detail so you can understand what the thought process is behind some of these details and decisions. I’m so fortunate to be doing this alongside an amazing group of talented bloggers for this tour, who all have their unique style, and if you’re visiting for the first time and coming over from Cindy at Edith & Evelyn, I’m so happy to welcome you into our home. If you’re been here before, I’m always thrilled to have you back! We have a wonderful group on the tour today – everyone is listed at the bottom of my post. Please be sure to take the full tour and get everyone’s take on glam in their homes!

Shall we get started?

GOING GLAM WITH TIFFANY BLUE

I want to start with my favorite part of our decor this holiday, and that’s the color palette. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and get inspired to do something which will elevate the ordinary in your home. tiffany-blue-gold-gift-wrap5Does it get any more glam than Tiffany inspired blue? I think this could secretly be every woman’s favorite color. Just the sight of it and I’m thinking sparkling diamond earrings and Audrey Hepburn. Although it really is slightly more blue, it’s the perfect addition to our Christmas decor. When I was decorating for the season, I wanted everything in our home to be silver and gold, yet I quickly learned I was craving color to add to the mix.tiffany-blue-gold-gift-wrap3 Jumping off of our blue living room lamps, it was the perfect cue for the color I needed. I printed some paper and wrapped these gifts (they’re actually not real but my daughter is convinced they are!) in the most glamorous colors I could imagine. The Tiffany blue and gold combination is definitely glamorous in my mind! I’m very happy I decided to layer this color throughout the living room.christmas-living-room5tiffany-blue-gold-gift-wrap2

GREEN MEETS GLAM WHEN MIXED WITH GOLD

Since we’re on the topic of gold (which you must know I have a serious love for), in our kitchen I went with only green and gold, where normally I have my blue and white ginger jars and vases on display. For the holidays I wanted a subtle feeling in here, but going back to what I think glamorous means, the addition of metallics, especially anything gold, is what glamorous is for me.
fresh-flowers-greenery-gold-magnolia-wreath3fresh-flowers-greenery-gold-magnolia-wreathMy magnolia wreaths are a staple in my holiday decor, but this year, I glammed them up by painting random leaves gold. I LOVE how it turned out. You can see more of them and more if my kitchen in my Christmas home tour as well.
fresh-flowers-greenery-goldA metallic mercury glass apothecary jar will make any space glamorous no matter where you put it. I removed the lid and used this for my floral arrangement. I have a confession : I am really not very good at arranging flowers, and I’m actually quite new with experimenting with them. I figured it’s at least a beautiful thing to get wrong so why not just go ahead and have fun? Adding a few fresh greens around is something that is glamorous to me – fresh flowers are the ultimate indulgence, right? pottery-barn-lantern-fresh-flowersThis little guy broke off so I saved him in a glass and added a few pine sprigs around – it’s so cute and fresh, it makes me smile when I’m doing dishes too. Talk about elevating the ordinary!pottery-barn-lantern-fresh-flowers2

A LITTLE GLITTER AND GLAM GOES A LONG WAY

Let’s talk a little more about my silver and gold touches that adorn the tree. This was my starting point with our decor this year. I’ve always used silver and gold, some years I mix it with blue, some with green. I love the mix of warm and cool metals as well, and Christmas is the perfect opportunity to go all out with it.
christmas-flocked-tree-ornaments-silver-gold3I absolutely love how these glittery touches work against our flocked Christmas tree.christmas-flocked-tree-ornaments-silver-gold2From the ribbon to the ornaments to the sprays, the glitter just keeps on giving on this tree!christmas-flocked-tree-ornaments-silver-goldHere’s a closer look at the mantel where I layered a silver garland underneath my existing one. I used this not only to beef up our garland but to get that element of shimmer happening over here.

THE DINING ROOM GETS ALL GLAMMED UP

This recent tablescape is from a post that I shared last week, A Winter White and Silver Tablescape (read it here) and if you’re a regular reader, you’ve probably noticed the little addition that adds some serious glam to this room.

Our lantern style pendant fixture is relatively new in this space and it’s sleek, clean lines add an understated elegance to our room. For the Christmas season, I wanted to mix it up a little bit so I used some vintage crystals I had from an old chandelier and draped them over the arms of the lights.

The way the crystals catch the light is quite exquisite and even though these are temporary for the season, I’m loving how they bring this fixture up a notch.

A cake stand, layered with a crystal beaded branch candleholder and surrounded with christmas balls in cool metals, and you have a focal point, both glam and elegant.glam-centerpiece-crystal2glam-centerpiece-crystalCool silver napkins and an acrylic snowflake top off this understated place setting with a little extra glamorous touch.

PILLOWS WITH ADDED GLAM FOR PUNCH

Back to the living room, I wanted to bring in another glam touch, but it needed to be low key at the same time. In our home last fall (my Fall Home Tour is here), I had found the most beautiful deep blue velvet pillows (as well as gorgeous crewel pillows) that I still love (they’re currently in our master bedroom), but for the holiday season I wanted to pair back the color and still keep a mix of textures on the sofas. Hello faux fur, velvet and sequins! My new Bolly Pillows from Annie Selke, fit the bill and are the perfect neutral-meets-glam touch that I needed. bolly-pillow-annie-selke-christmas-decor7bolly-pillow-annie-selke-christmas-decor5The texture is fabulous on these pillows and I love the metallic tone of the sequins. A beautiful mix with the velvets and furs on the existing pillows.bolly-pillow-annie-selke-christmas-decor6They’re gorgeous at night and shimmer in the light, just a little bit of glamorous can really go a long way.bolly-pillow-annie-selke-christmas-decor4 bolly-pillow-annie-selke-christmas-decor2There’s that elevating the ordinary again!bolly-pillow-annie-selke-christmas-decorI hope you had fun discovering ways to bring in unexpected touches of glamour around your home today. I think we all have a little bit of it inside us, who doesn’t like to elevate the ordinary? Even if it is just a little bit!
