ONE CONSOLE TABLE FOUR DIFFERENT WAYS

It’s no secret that I love to decorate and I love accessories. I’m a firm believer in purchasing and decorating with what you love…the beautiful, collected pieces that speak to who you are as an individual. If you’ve been reading along with my posts for a while now, this is what I’m always discussing – the importance of choosing things that make your heart skip a beat – sometimes it’s a trend piece for the season, sometimes it’s a vintage piece that reminds you of your mother’s collectibles, or it is your mother’s collectibles. Decorating should always reflect what you love and what tell your story. That being said, there’s no reason you shouldn’t change up your decor on a regular basis. It doesn’t even have to be for a new season or holiday. You can change it whenever you like, and having an arsenal of accessories is the best way to do that. I always love rotating pieces, and shopping your own home is perfect for this – bring out items from your bedroom and switch them with accessories in your living room. Today we’re exploring decorating with one console table four different ways and how I’ve pulled together different items from around our home. You can do this anywhere in your home, and a console table is the perfect place to try different combinations and displays. Let’s have a look!

I love metallics, as you probably already know. I recently found this fabulous, mixed metal lamp that is a perfect fit for this table – at the bottom of this post you can shop several metallic lamp options that I’ve sourced for you. This isn’t the first time I’ve used metallics on this table and I often use mixed metals as well. Last Fall, I used a combination of gold with a pop of red for the season – you can see it here. I pulled together some favorite items that I often use, and I still even have our gold painted pinecones displayed from Christmas. I definitely need to stock up on more pussywillow branches – this vase should really have a fuller look, although I don’t mind the minimal feel either!
I love the sculptural quality of the lamp and that it makes a bold statement, yet it’s still somewhat understated. The silvery tips are a great compliment for the lamp and contrast the warmth of the gold pieces.
I love this view with all the metallics working with the black walls, doors and rug. Metallics are neutral, add elegance and can elevate just about any display.

I know you know how much I love blue and white. I use it everywhere and all year round. It’s classic and I will never tire of it. Sometimes I love to use it in large groups for impact – as I have on our new antique mirrored buffet (see how I styled that here).I chose to use the same idea with this setup, making a statement with mostly monochromatic items. I did use blue and white last Spring in our entrance as well, you can see it here.
Here, I took a little bit of a ‘less is more’ approach and kept the main focus above, and the supporting items below. I always love to use books when I decorate, and I talk about it often. They’re always a no-fail decorating accessory and add interest to any space. It’s a worthwhile investment to buy books you love, and design books are always a great conversation piece. Check out my friend Haneen’s post here, all about her favorite design books. Blue and white is always right in our home and I love how it jumps off all of the black elements. There’s so much of it available now, you can find it just about anywhere. Keeping some of the blue and white, and adding small pops of color is an easy way to mix it up a little bit. I used my hydrangeas and a colorful book to add a couple of pops that make a statement.  I love how my green stool balances out all of the color on the table. Notice how the upholstered stools are still clean and minimal – and yes, one of them is missing some books…confessions of blogging…not everything is perfect when we’re shooting ;)If you look closely, the book cover picks up the yellows in the flowers as well as some of the turquoise tones in the books on the bottom shelf.If you’re unsure of how to incorporate color, try it in small doses first and balance it out with another object of the same or similar color. SHOP THIS LOOK BY CLICKING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE THUMBNAIL IMAGE :

Who doesn’t love an all-white display? It’s fresh and clean and always feel right. I love to use neutrals as much as I love color and you should never be afraid of exploring different ways to use color in your home. A great tip for making neutrals interesting, is to use variation in color, texture and materials. You can layer so many different types of objects together to create a look like this.
I brought up this glass lamp from the basement that I’ve had for so many years, and I love it as much as my new metallic one! What I love about having an inventory of decor is the ability to change things up on a whim. My husband is always telling me to open a store and sell it all haha. Seriously though, I’ve had many, many items for years and I still love them all.
I borrowed the horse from our daughter’s room and I think he looks pretty handsome here! I’d love to keep it here but it will have to go back. I think I’ll have to look for one of my own to keep my grandmother’s horse bookends on the bottom shelf some company. They’ll actually be returning to the living room, unless  I decide to keep this display for the next little while. Hmmm…decisions… Notice all of the different textures happening as well as all of the tones of white. It’s perfectly fine to have a mix – it creates visual interest and makes a display more compelling.

I have to be honest – I think I’m having trouble picking a favorite out of all of the options I’ve shared today, but I may have to go for the gold for the next few weeks or so.
