After going through some of my older posts the other day, I decided to revisit the topic of table settings. My post from last summer on outdoor entertaining is one of my favorites! I love the combination of colors and layers of pattern and of course all the blue! I had bought the Cynthia Rowley outdoor dishes at HomeSense along with the linens. I mean, how dreamy is this? I added the shells and coral to layer in even more texture. Generally what I try to do (when I actually have time for it!) is layer in some objects that I love and that have meaning to me..you’ve heard me say before how important that is! It’s interesting to dress a table with things that create conversation and trust me, your guests will remember it!
Today I have 3 different settings that I worked on, which I’m pretty happy with. I really wish I’d had more time do do more for you and also a complete table! Maybe that will be another follow up post! Take a look below for some ideas for your next gathering. Sometimes it’s nice just to do this for yourselves too! Why not? Everyone deserves a little special treatment!
I scored these beauties today at HomeSense as well. I absolutely love these two outdoor dishes together. Aren’t they fabulous? Yes, shells again…something I really love and I have them allover our home! They mean something to me, the perfect reason to add them here. The ikat placemats were a steal from Stokes, $10 for 4…I think I need to go back for 4 more! I also got these adorable little vintage glasses, which you can’t really see here, but they were too cute so I snagged them!
What I like about this setting is that it incorporates formal dishes with casual. I mixed my gold print glassware with a silver print wineglass to reinforce the them of mixing metals and pattern (I just wish you could see them better!!). The only thing new here is this beautiful gold shell (yes, again!) that I found at HomeSense as well, which I also couldn’t show…next time I’ll do the whole table for you..sorry I’ve had a busy week! I added the silver fortune cookie because I adore it, and it’s such a cute little gift to give to your guests if you choose to. It opens up, so it would also make a great place card holder! The placemats are West Elm, from last year. I love these because they add a hint of shine but are still a little casual too. Mixing them with the little gold plate and my silver edged china gives this setting a down to earth feel. The stainless steel flatware is also from my wedding. I don’t use it a lot because it scratches easily, which is unfortunate because I love it’s clean, modern lines. It always adds an elegance to my table. I tried to photoshop myself out of the spoons but I did a horrible job so please try to ignore that! No time!
Finally my outdoor garden themed table! I bought these trellis placemats from a sample sale years ago and I have a bunch of them in different colors. I especially love this one and I love to mix them all together on one table. I used my green bamboo/leaf textured dishes to reinforce the outdoor feel. You can see the hand painted wineglass in this shot a little bit – the perfect thing to tie together with the fresh cut bloom on the napkin. I have a few sets of silver, which I love to use everyday, I also love to mix these together for a casual feel. I went with these to keep the feeling feminine. By the way, if you have silver from your wedding that you use only for special occasions, you really should get it out and use it every day. I love to use mine. It goes with everything and is such a nice feel on any table, even takeout!
Now that the weekend is upon us, hopefully you’ll get some ideas from this post that you can use to create your next table. I hope you enjoyed this! I had fun creating these for you! Have a fantastic weekend! xo
