SPRING KITCHEN DECORATING: LIGHT BLUE TOUCHES, OUR NEW RUG + FAUX FLORALS

I’m so excited to share my spring kitchen decorating with you guys! You know our kitchen got some recent updates last fall (see them here), and I talked about our new rug that I scored recently to brighten up this space (read about it here) – and it’s so amazing how much lighter and brighter it feels in this space – I couldn’t be more ready for spring to arrive! Clocks move ahead this weekend – are you as excited for that extra hour of daylight as I am? Nothing feeds my soul more than a beautiful, bright and welcoming space and I am loving the feel of our kitchen this spring.

I added our new rug, a few simple, light blue touches mixed in with my favorite blue and white pieces, and my always-present faux florals (you know I love them!) to celebrate the season in this space. I wanted a light and airy palette in our home for the season – I’m loving light blues right now and I’m using them in our living room as well. Did you see my spring living room post last week? OUR NEW, SOFT HUED, VINTAGE-INSPIRED RUG

This rug adds so much life to our kitchen, and I’m still so in love with having a large scale rug in here versus a runner. The space between our kitchen and island is just over four feet, so there’s plenty of room to fill up. I’ve used smaller scale rugs here in past seasons, which I also love, but I wanted something that would really make a statement last fall when we added our new updates.This spring, I followed suit and went larger, rather than smaller, for maximum impact. I think it paid off! Plus, it was such a steal, which always makes it easier to swap out also. I personally wouldn’t use an expensive rug here, because of the water that will drip on it between the sink and dishwasher. I’m much less worried about food spilling, since my food prep area is at the stove and the end of the island – I don’t prep food over by the sink, other than washing it and sometimes cutting meat on the counter to the right of the sink, so I can clean up immediately.

I love this spring look and color palette so much – it’s bright, airy, soft and chic – it makes me happy!

FAUX FLORALS & FRUIT ARE ALWAYS IN STYLE!

I used a few favorites in our kitchen this season, and kept it very simple and clean overall. Some white roses, hydrangeas, and cherry blossom branches give our kitchen a soft, ethereal feeling with their neutral colors, and a beautiful serving platter filled with soft green faux artichokes and pears for a small dose of color on the stove.I combined my roses and hydrangeas in an old pitcher that has been sitting in my cupboard for years. I used to keep some green hydrangeas years ago when we first moved into our home. It ended up in the cupboard buried behind some platters for too long! I’m so happy I pulled it out again, it’s the perfect piece to create a beautiful arrangement. Arranged on my tray with a smaller vase of florals and candles, this display is beautiful anywhere! 

Simple branches and a pair ginger jars in this corner. Nothing more to say!I love how the faux fruit adds the perfect dose of color over along this wall, against my blue paisly towels.

MY FAVORITE BLUE & WHITE ACCENTS ALWAYS DO THE TRICK!

You all know I’m always using my blue and white pieces in here (and everywhere else!), so why not keep using them?! I love them too much to take them out, and they’ve become a neutral base for the decor in our home. Season to season, I’ll move them around and rearrange them for a fresh feel.It’s important to create balance when you’re using colorful accessories, and even though my blue and white pieces act as a neutral in our home, they still read as a punchy dose of color, which needs to be artfully placed. I’ve created that balance by using tall vases on that small shelf, to the left of the stove for example. Even my small little jar tucked in over there helps too.

Accented around our spring decorated kitchen, they help to tie my spring theme together, and tie back into our new rug also. I love the deep blues of my ceramics mixed in with my light blues towels as well – another use of my seasonal color, dotted around the space to bring cohesiveness to my theme.

SHOW OFF YOUR BEAUTIFUL COLLECTIONS!

I do admit – I like stuff – lots of it!! I’ve tried many times to clear my counters to keep them minimal and streamlined. For some reason it doesn’t work for me and I always end up filling them with beautiful pieces I love – I am a maximalist at heart! There’s quite the expanse of counter space in our kitchen, so they look a little to sparse if they’re minimally decorated. I used some of my regular go-to items and added my florals and branches to fill in the blanks.Cake stands with dishes arranged on them – I always use cake stands for display. They’re the perfect riser for any vignette. Trays, vases, candles, branches, florals, fruit…it’s all here in the mix. Keeping the color palette neutral over here (except for the faux fruit), allows me to have a multitude of accessories without it feeling saturated and ‘overdecorated’. 

If you have beautiful pieces in your collection, why not show them off? Use them in interesting ways, layer them with like colors (in this case whites, creams and ivories), and mix your favorite color in between, in simple ways. 

ON THE ISLAND: A BEAUTIFUL ARRAY OF FAVORITE ACCENTS

Roses styled with a beautiful scented candle (on a mini cake stand, of course!) in my seasonal hue, mercury glass candleholders, a blue and white sugar bowl, are all arranged on my brass tray. I added some beautiful soft blue napkins layered with gold forks on my beaded cake stand (another one of my favorite pieces on display), to reinforce my color scheme. It really is amazing how the smallest little things can pull an entire space and color palette together. You don’t need a lot to make a statement and complete your look!I love that little touch of blue that my scented candle brings to this display. It’s such a beautiful hue!

Building on that idea, I layered in the textures that I felt would help me bring in the softness, and the colors to reinforce my theme, which are carefully dotted around the room.
