FRESH IDEAS FOR FALL HOME TOUR

Welcome to my Fall Home Tour! It’s reveal day today, and after working tirelessly for the past month or so to get it all done, I’m so happy that today is finally here. I can tell you, it’s a lot of work pulling together a tour showcasing so many rooms at once! But all worth the effort, since we get to bring you fresh decorating ideas and endless inspiration with blog tours like these. If you’re coming over from my dear friend, Erin’s blog, The Sunny Side Up, welcome to CitrineLiving! I’m thrilled you’re here and I hope you love it! Isn’t Erin’s home such a dream? She has been inspiring me for a few years now and I can honestly tell you, she is the sweetest person too. I’m so excited that I’ll have the chance to see her in person again next week, in New York City, along with most of my closest best blogging girlfriends that are on this tour with me today – everyone on the tour is listed at the bottom of my post, so please don’t forget to hop over to each of them and pay them a visit for tons of decorating ideas this Fall. I hope you enjoy my tour today, where you’ll notice almost immediately, that in lieu of using pumpkins and gourds (except for my wreath and a few in the kitchen), I’ve chosen to keep our home’s Fall look simple and sophisticated with rich colors, and warm metals.

If you saw my front porch reveal last week, then you’re familiar with this Fall setup. I kept it simple, only using some seasonal flowers and plants, along with a new wreath for the front door. You can visit my front porch tour here for some more decorating ideas – I think you’ll love it!

THE ENTRYWAY

Please come on inside today, and I’ll walk you through the main living area in our home – our entryway, dining room, living room, and kitchen.
Starting at the entryway, you can see that our open concept home allows for visibility and flow from one space to the next. The dining room is immediately on the left of the foyer, and you’ll also notice right away there’s a couple of new things in here… We’ll come back to that a little further down :)I love the fullness and the rich colors and textures of this wreath and even though I’m not using orange hues or pumpkins, I fell hard for this classic piece when I saw it. It really pops against the black door and is so welcoming as you enter our home. I’ve had more compliments on this than any other wreath I’ve ever had. 

Keeping with my theme of blue and white on our console table – it’s been in our entryway since February, as well as all over our house – some of my favorite pieces are gathered here, along with a layered vignette of metallic accessories and design books. Things you’ll very often see around here. It hasn’t changed a whole lot in here, only one thing here is new (that beautiful hexagonal marble tray), the rest is just repurposed and rotated from other rooms and my decor ‘inventory’ in the basement.

Even the lamp is from our daughter’s room (we just redid her room and it’s so fabulous – check it out here!) and we simply sprayed it gold. I do need a new shade for it, this was from another lamp and it’s not the right size, but still nice enough for now! I wanted this space to be simple and clean, using mainly the metallics to speak to the season.

THE DINING ROOM

I also recently shared my first tablescape of the season, using only faux foliage and warm metallics. That was a couple of weeks ago, and our dining room table is still set up exactly the same way. That’s the beauty of faux – long lasting and no mess to clean up! Click here to see this table in more detail.

I layered in some gorgeous leopard into our dining room, as well as throughout our home this Fall. I just love it. It adds warmth, instant glam and a fashion forward sensibility that I love. I’ve had some old pillows sitting in our basement forever, and I paired them with these fabulous new leopard print Bianca pillows, from Tonic Living, which you can find here. I love how perfect they go anywhere I put them. As they say, leopard is a neutral!

Now for something really exciting! I know the suspense is killing you! If you’re a long time reader, then you know I’ve been hunting and hunting for new dining room chairs, and I recently found our upholstered captain’s chairs this Summer, with the brass ring detail, to complete our room. If you’ve never seen my Summer tour, you can see it right here. You may have heard me talk about my love for Chinese Chippendale chairs over the years, and that I’ve been lusting after a pair forever. Well, let me introduce you to my newest lattice-back babies…

Not quite Chinese Chippendales, but a very close second, and I just adore them. They bring a completely different look and feel to our dining room than the brown oval back chairs. Which, by the way, I still love, and have no intention of getting rid of just yet…

So I’m sharing two different looks of our dining room on this tour. I chose not to use the pillows here, to let the chairs stand on their own – there’s a lot happening in this space. But I think my Bianca’s may just end up here soon too.Another new addition to this room are these beautiful new brass wall sconces from Lux Decor. A long-time search yielded stunning results when I found these beauties! I love the brass against the black walls and how they flank my mother’s painting. They complete this side of the room and help to draw your eye right in. I just love them.

We hung them high to allow for tall items to be displayed underneath, like these faux stems with berries. I also love their golden tones in here.I love to add layers to my rooms and these sconces have done the job perfectly.

What do you think of my new chairs? I love that they also play off of the pattern in the rug and bring in added texture. Next item on the list in this room is a new dining room table or painting our existing one a light cream or taupe color. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to have that by Christmas :)

THE LIVING ROOM

You’ll notice some big changes in our living room as well, which have really brought in a new feeling that we love! A GORGEOUS new rug from Boutique Rugs was a happy accident in this room. I ordered this beautifully detailed Harput rug for our bedroom, and being in the usual rush that I’m in, I measured wrong…too big for our bedroom, but perfect for our living room! It opens the entire space up and I think was truly meant to be! It’s a perfect fit. We ALL love it, hubby, kids and bunny included ;)It anchors every corner of this large, open concept room and brings everything together even more than our previous rug – which is now in our bedroom. I’ll be sharing that space next week, so stay tuned!You know by now how much I love blues and as the years go by, it’s taken over almost every room. Literally, I started with a small collection of blue and white ginger jars and dishes, and now it’s all over our home. We had everything neutral for so long, and slowly layering in more color and pattern has been a breath of fresh air in our home.

Speaking of blue and white, I opted for only that, when styling these bookshelves this season. We built these shelves last year and this is the first time they’ve been dressed with only my blue and white collection. I really love the clean, monochromatic look, and how it echoes the pattern of our new rug seamlessly. I’m all for those happy accidents ;)

I’m sure you’ve also noticed more new pillows along with my gorgeous leopard beauties. More leopard in here, but just enough to punctuate the room with a strong graphic statement. I decided to actually keep some of my Summer pillows as well, and mix them in with these rich, velvety ones, also from Tonic Living.I love the soft, lighter blues paired with our new Gold Reggio (Click here) and Peacock Reggio (Click here) textured velvet pillows. And that sexy Bianca thrown into the mix brings it all up a few design notches! The combination of rich and lux, light and daring is a great juxtaposition of pattern and texture for Fall.Leopard is classic and timeless but at the same time, will always be modern and current. Isn’t that funny how that happens?

Finally, let’s talk about our new lamps. Again, a lucky find, and after hunting for what seems like forever, these brass and navy babies literally jumped off the shelves and into my arms when I walked past them at HomeSense.

I keep saying this, but really – they could not be more perfect, they were meant for me, I know it. It’s amazing how changing small things can bring a room to another level -ok, the rug is not so small, but you know what I mean. I like this somewhat ‘dressed up’ look for the upcoming holiday season. It’s already time to start planning for Christmas, and I have to think of ways to make this look work. I’m thinking a navy blue and gold palette right now, but we’ll have to wait and see. If you want to see last year’s tour, with loads of metals and cool blues, you can find it all here.

GET THE LOOK OF OUR LIVING ROOM : 

THE KITCHEN

Our kitchen is the one room that I usually keep very simple, and I often have the same thing happening for most of the year. Except a few seasonal touches, I keep it relatively simple.I added a few cut branches and leaves and a trio of baby mercury glass pumpkins that my girlfriend gave to me.

I usually keep my chinoiserie pieces in here as well, throughout most of the year.Our built-in shelving is often being rearranged, but honestly, I do like to keep my favorite pieces on display here. I wrote a post last winter on different ways to style kitchen shelves, with three different looks, all of which I love – you can read it here.Lots of layers, mixed metals and cooking staples, like onions and garlic are always handy for me. 

More autumn leaves dress this shelf as well.It really doesn’t get any easier than that to bring the current season into your kitchen – fresh produce and cut stems from outside are perfect no matter what time of the year it is. It costs next to nothing and is always beautiful! Using beautiful plates and bowls to showcase everyday items makes it that much more beautiful also.

I like the idea of combining that somewhat rustic feeling with my more traditional elements in our kitchen. Something about it is comforting to me. We have a casually elegant and relaxed look and feel to our kitchen, and adding those layers emphasizes that feeling.Can you spot my cute little pumpkins?They are the perfect combination and echo the mixed metais that I always have going on in here.

I love the little touches of warm tones throughout our home this season. I’ve intentionally threaded it through each room for a cohesive palette. Living in a completely open concept home can be tricky when it comes to seasonal decor, and this is a simple way to achieve continuity.Speaking of warmth, nothing brings in the comfort of the season when the outside temperatures get cooler, than fresh baked muffins and croissants…mmm….
