First things first, let’s talk about the color palette and where my inspiration was drawn from. Last year, in my Christmas home tour, my colors included mostly silver and gold, with touches of pale, icy blue. This year, I wanted to fully incorporate my blue and white chinoiserie pieces that I’ve been collecting over the past several years. I’ve added quite a few new pieces this past year, and I knew it would be the driving force for my theme this Christmas.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware.I wanted navy blue to be my main color, but I also wanted to bring in the richness of forest green in our dining room, not only from the greenery you’ll see throughout our home this year, but I immediately thought of classic tartan when I was conjuring up my plan with these colors. You can visit my Christmas inspiration post here to see where it all started. Stay tuned for my upcoming tours and posts featuring the rest of our home this season.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware.

There is just something so classic and timeless about tartan, and since it’s plentiful at this time of the year, I knew I wanted to inject a few touches – especially on my table. My husband is Scottish, and although our family tartan is a little different than the black watch tartan I chose to use, it’s very similar and I love the sense of heritage it brings to our dining room.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware.I used the tartan in the textiles on the table, along with this rich, navy velvet that I found at TonicLiving. You can purchase this gorgeous fabric here. You’ll also see pillows in the same fabric on the two chairs. You can purchase those here. I made a six foot runner as the base of the tablescape, and then ran a thinner strip of tartan down the center.

The navy and green tartan is as classic as it gets! They come in a full set of eight, each trimmed in a different color. I used the green trim and the blue trim at the ends of my table. You can get them here. You’ll notice on the two end place settings, I used different dishes as well as napkins and ribbons in the opposite combination from rest of the table. I always like to mix it up a little bit for contrast and visual interest.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware. My centrepiece was somewhat of a challenge to create. Although the elements are simple, and building it was relatively easy, I had some problems getting my hydrangeas to stay hydrated. I started with a piece of oasis soaked in water, and from there, I added fresh cut pine branches around the base. Then I built it up, adding more pine branches to create the shape.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware.I had four hydrangeas and I made sure to leave ample space for them. Once I added those, I filled in the holes with the small berries and green leaves. There were still a few visible gaps and I had to be creative and find something to fill it all in. I used silver, white and gold pine cones that I already owned, and nestled them in. Unfortunately, by the time I shot this, I had lost one of the hydrangeas, and had to rearrange a few things to make it work… I think I hid the flaws pretty well!Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware. Each chair is decorated with a navy and gold ornament, as well as navy grosgrain ribbon tied in a bow for a pretty and festive touch.

The overscale mercury glass ornament hanging from the chandelier is tied with simple satin ribbon, and I love how the texture echoes the rest of the ornaments in the room. It’s always a nice, festive touch to add something sparkly to a simple light fixture like this one.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware.Gorgeous Christmas tablescape with classic navy and green tartan, accented with gold ornaments, chargers, flatware and glassware.I used my gold chargers underneath these French inspired dinner plates I recently ordered.
