CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHT

UPDATE :  SEE OUR NEUTRAL DINING ROOM UPDATE BY CLICKING HERE

Do you remember my post a couple of weeks ago about my search for a new dining room chandelier? If you didn’t get a chance to read it, you can find it HERE. I talked about the lights I’ve been looking at and contemplating buying, as well as some that I love. Well, I finally did it – I went for the the Millennium Four Light Foyer Pendant. I can tell you – waiting six years was worth it! Ok, I know that sounds a little long and yes, for some people not worth the wait, but for me, I can’t even begin to express my excitement! I paid a fraction of what I would have for this size especially, had I bought the original one from Visual Comfort. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with splurging and going for it when you feel it’s right! For me, however, I am a thrift shopper most of the time and as I’ve mentioned to you previously, I love to wait for the right thing to come along and if I can save a little while doing so, then even better! The funny thing is, I wanted this same one, on a smaller scale, to put either over the kitchen island, or in the entrance and I was about to go for it, but then changed my mind on a whim and ended up going with it in the dining room, for several reasons.

Below is the before of our previous capiz shell fixture. Just to remind you, this was always a temporary light and definitely far too small for the space. This is a very small doing room and naturally you’d think a small light would be appropriate – but it’s not the case at all. In my opinion, this is the best time to go big – which is the opposite of what you’d think is the obvious thing to do.DR_Feb16One of the reasons I chose this fixture is, I wanted it to be big. I went for this size because it’s a lantern style pendant and you can see right through it – it doesn’t take up a lot of ‘visual space’. It’s the perfect opportunity to get away with pushing the boundaries and using a large scale. It actually looks much larger in person than it does here in these photos.CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTI love classic design but I also love to create unexpected spaces, something you won’t typically find. I’m always talking about how much I love to mix pattern and introduce colorful elements in a space. That’s pretty evident here in our dining room…I love the idea that the minimal feel of this fixture allows for all of this to happen in this room and only supports the design rather than compete with it. It takes a backseat but steals the show at the same time!CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTI really wanted something more modern as well – our table is a traditional style pedestal table – I wanted the light to be the complete opposite, to create some drama and tension.CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTWarmer metals like this only really just starting to become something you see in mainstream markets in the past few years but we’ve been seeing them return to fashion and interiors for about 8-10. When it comes to lighting, what you typically would find at the mass market level is black or silver and if it was brass it was the shiny brass from the 80’s and 90’s. Funny enough our entry light fixture is exactly that! I picked it up at a thrift store and it is also ‘temporary’! I do like it though! The finish of my new one is called Vintage Gold. So when I found it on Wayfair at a very affordable price, I was jumping up and down!
CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTI think it really is the perfect element and finishes off our dining room beautifully. It goes great with my drapery hardware and nailhead trim on the chairs, The table also has some warm metail details.CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTCITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTYou get a better sense of the scale of this piece from further away.
CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTIsn’t it amazing? I really am totally in love.CitrineLiving_New_chandelier2I love the ceiling plate as well and how the square shape echoes it’s linear lines.CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTOne thing I’ve learned about creating a home that reflects my personal and taste, is to go with the things I love. I’ve said this so many times, but it really is true. Not everything will work, or give you the results you expect right away. I can tell you it will force you to try things and experiment. No one gets it right on the first try, decorating is trial and error – especially when you’re combining different elements from different periods or styles.CITRINELIVING: MAKE AN IMPACT WITH THE RIGHT LIGHTWhat do you think about this light and a larger scale like this? Do you like this choice? And how about the finish? Would you go bold in your space and try something you wouldn’t traditionally gravitate toward? Tell me! I really want to know what you think! I hope you enjoyed reading about my latest find and why I chose it! xo
