ADDING WALL SCONCES

| | |

Kitchen-wall-sconces9Do you remember last month, my husband and I added a new built-in open shelf in our kitchen? If you didn’t get the chance to read it, you’ll definitely want to! You can find it HERE to see the shelf reveal and also a get glimpse of what the kitchen looked like beforehand. What a HUGE difference it makes in here – I loved our kitchen before, but now, it truly gives such a different feel – it feels bigger and brighter and who doesn’t love that?!Kitchen-wall-sconces3 In that post, I also wrote about what I’d been thinking of adding to the full height tiled wall – since the artwork was removed to build the shelf – I talked about adding a pair of wall sconces, and I was also considering art, or mirrors as well. I knew that I wanted the same thing on both sides of the range hood, to bring symmetry to our space, since there’s a little bit of asymmetry happening here. Kitchen-wall-sconces2Then I found these gorgeous sconces at Bombay Company and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. If you notice, the sconces are more of a bronze, or copper finish, and the pendant light fixtures are both different tones of brass (I painted the island fixture myself – it was originally black and I chose to leave the lights in the center, and chain as is). The cabinet hardware is chrome and appliances are stainless. I’m a HUGE believer in mixing. Pattern, texture, metals, you name it. Kitchen-wall-sconces5While having it all match is beautiful and I have been thinking of going brass on the hardware someday, this is a more collected and curated look, as we have in the rest of our home. I know, I know – I always say this, but it is so true. I can’t put my finger on it, but I just love it. There’s something in the juxtaposition of mixing unexpected things that speaks to me and gets me excited! I really love how all of the warm metals work together, and the sconces pick up the antique brass of the nailhead trim on the stools as well. Kitchen-wall-sconces8My good friend Jennifer, of decorgolddesigns.com, just wrote a fabulous piece on my kitchen in everythinghomemagazine.com. Thank you, Jen, for such a wonderful article – I am so honored to be featured! Please be sure to go check it out! I wanted to share my photos that are featured in the article, here as well, so you could get a close up look at them.Kitchen-wall-sconces6I haven’t changed the display on our shelf yet – I’m still loving the items that I have arranged here. Even though I always move things around our home, when I love something, it stays for a while!Kitchen-wall-sconces12Kitchen-wall-sconces4By the way – these are real candles, not electric sconces. I would have loved to go with electric lights here, but because of the tiled wall and the fact that the wall is on the exterior of our home, it would have been a very big job to install. So, we opted for candles and the glow at night is spectacular.Kitchen-wall-sconces7The sconces lend an air of sophistication in here and they also provide the perfect focal point from where your eye can then wander over to the range hood, and then on to the sconce on the other side.Kitchen-wall-sconces10

Kitchen-wall-sconces11 Tell me what you think! Do you like the choice we made or do you miss the artwork that was here previously? I do miss my vintage print very much – I’ve had it for 15 years, maybe even more. It was finally time for a change however, for it to move on to it’s next spot in the house and make room for something new. xo

Thank you, Debra! I’m so happy you like it! I may even take the plunge and paint them more gold to match better…I never seem to be satisfied haha! Thanks for stopping by! xo

  2. Excellent choice! Even if it’s not exactly the same tone, I think repeating the “golden” color of the island fixture on the walls was perfect.
